In short
- Romance has a category on 17 services; the 18+ editions sit on Manta, Tappytoon, Tapas, Lezhin, Toomics, Lalatoon, Honeytoon and MangaPlaza.
- Cheapest steady reading: Manta Standard at $4.99 a month or Tappytoon Club at $4.99 a month. Per episode, Lalatoon works out to $0.29-$0.48.
- Free: first episodes on every service above, Manta's 72-hour Free Pass, Tappytoon's Time Till Free, Lalatoon's coupon every 72 hours.
- Web only for the adult versions on Manta, Tappytoon, Tapas, Lezhin (Android PLUS APK aside), Toomics and Honeytoon.
Romance comics put a love story at the center and let the relationship drive the plot. Adult romance webtoons add an 18+ rating on top, and what that means changes from one service to the next. On Manta it is a "Full version" of a series. On Tappytoon it is a [Steamy] or [Uncut] edition. On MangaPlaza it is a shelf of 1,564 titles, all tagged Mature 18+.
Which services have an adult romance category
Of the 17 services with a romance category, three groups come out of the category pages.
The first group sells 18+ editions of romance. Manta's Romance tab sits next to Romantasy and BL tabs. Tappytoon has no separate romance URL, so its Discover page is the place to filter. Tapas runs a Romance tab and a separate Romance Fantasy tab. Lezhin's Genre+ page, Toomics and its sister service Lalatoon use the same numeric genre id (1065) on their ranking pages. Honeytoon and MangaPlaza have their own romance shelves.
The second group carries romance but not explicit romance. WEBTOON allows mature-rated series with sexual themes, yet its rules ban nudity and explicit sex. MangaToon, WebComics and Webnovel's comics side are not adult services at all; their sign-up shows no age check. Read them for romance with no 18+ edition behind it.
The third group sells files, not episodes: Irodori Comics tags works "Romance-centric", Iron Circus Comics lists romance among the genres of its erotica collection, and itch.io has a romance tag where artists sell or give away DRM-free downloads. BookWalker shows Romance as a genre facet, with mature titles hidden until you turn them on in a signed-in settings toggle.

What reading costs
Coins and points make prices hard to compare, so here is the arithmetic from each service's own numbers.
Manta sells Gems: 1,250 for $9.99. Its episodes cost 30-60 Gems, so a 40-Gem episode is about $0.32 and a 50-Gem one about $0.40. The Standard membership is $4.99 for one month or $49.90 for twelve (about $4.16 a month) and includes the Unlimited Library of 300+ series. Tappytoon charges points: one episode of a [Steamy] series showed 300 points, and 3,900 points cost $4.99, which puts that episode near $0.38. Lezhin episodes start at 20 coins; 240 coins cost $5.99, so 20 coins is about $0.50.
Lalatoon is the cleanest example of pay-per-episode. A paid episode is 3 clovers, a 25-clover pack costs $3.99 and a 500-clover pack costs $47.99, which gives a range of $0.29 to $0.48 an episode. Toomics takes the opposite route. Its VIP membership covers the non-Store catalog for $8.99 or $9.99 a month, or $47.99 a year, and Store titles need coins at 1-3 coins each. Honeytoon shows 9 coins per episode, with packs of 700 coins (350 plus 350 bonus) for 29.99 EUR and 2,000 coins for 49.99 EUR: that is about 0.39 EUR an episode on the small pack and 0.23 EUR on the large one.
MangaPlaza stands apart. A point is $0.01, listing prices such as $1.99 appear without saying whether the unit is a chapter or a volume, and the Premium plan is $6.99 a month with a one-time 7-day trial. Cancel it on the website only: My Account, Premium Membership Details, Cancel Premium Membership.

Free romance, and how far it goes
Every service in the matrix gives the first episodes away. Manta's Free Pass opens one episode for 72 hours and resets after 24. Tappytoon has a Time Till Free episode every 24 hours on marked titles and weekly Free Tickets that last 48 hours. Lalatoon hands out one Wait Till It's Free coupon 72 hours after you read an episode, not valid for the newest 20. Toomics gives the first three chapters, sometimes more. MangaPlaza opens the first chapter of most titles and keeps a Now Free shelf. For a longer list, see the page on free adult webtoons.
Tapas deserves a warning. It ends service on 2027-03-31, Ink has not been on sale since 2026-10-01, and unlocked episodes become inaccessible. The shutdown notice has the details; do not spend on Tapas now.
Age gates and apps
The 18+ romance is mostly kept out of the app stores. Manta's help center says its 18+ full versions are available on the website only, for adults who have verified their age; the age is the birth date typed at account creation and cannot be changed afterwards. Tappytoon's Steamy editions are not in its iOS or Android build. Toomics' adult series are not in its app. Lezhin keeps R-rated titles out of the App Store and Play Store builds, and shows them on the website and in an Android-only PLUS APK. On a phone, the adult editions open in the browser, and the apps' download buttons never reach them. The mobile reading guide covers the workarounds.

Subgenres that live inside romance
Only a few romance subgenres have their own tab anywhere, so they get a section each here.
Office romance has a tab on Honeytoon (named Office, path /genres/business) and a Workplace Romance shelf on MangaPlaza that holds 336 titles under Adult Romance. WebComics lists Office among its tags.
Contract marriage is a MangaToon category (number 96 in its genre menu) and a WebComics tag. Both are non-explicit services, so neither has an 18+ edition of those plots.
Adult romance and Harlequin are MangaPlaza's own shelves. Harlequin adaptations ran to 4,431 titles in the same directory count. Dark romance has no tab on any category page we checked; readers find it through tags or Tapas's "Spicy Romance" shelf in its Mature section.
Romance you buy once
The western comics side of romance is mostly sold as files. Iron Circus has Iris and Angel (Issue One is a free DRM-free PDF; Issues Two to Four are $5.00 each, $12.50 as a bundle), Letters for Lucardo (three of four planned volumes on sale, $8.00 as a PDF or $15.00 softcover each) and Yes, Roya ($10.00 PDF, $15.00 softcover). Sunstone began as a webcomic and now sells as Image Comics trade paperbacks. The sex comedies Ménage à 3 and Sticky Dilly Buns can be read from their first strip on the creator's site, with print volumes at $9.99.
Related genres and pages
Romance overlaps most with drama, fantasy, BL and GL, and the comedy and historical genre pages cover the rest. For where erotic webtoons sit among the stores, read erotic webtoons; for a ranked look at the services, the adult webtoon platform list; for manga with the same romance shelves, adult manga. All genres are indexed on the genres hub.
