Card networks and payment processors set more rules for adult comics than any law outside Japan, and a single notice from one of them can take a store offline or pull years of posts. The newest date is a deadline: Apple required every Patreon creator to use its in-app subscription billing by November 1, 2026, and what happened on the day has not been reported yet. In late September 2026, pixivFANBOX suspended posts after a payment processor notice, some of them years old, and three days earlier Kakao announced that Tapas will shut down on March 31, 2027, taking every unlocked episode with it.
In May and June 2026 Fantia tightened its mosaic rules and then rolled them back for drawn work, blaming a police inquiry. In March 2026 GlobalComix bought INKR, and SubscribeStar went fiction-only with every post screened. FAKKU's payment processor of 11 years ended its account in December 2025.
Further back: Manga Planet announced its closure in October 2025 after losing Stripe; itch.io pulled adult pages from search in July 2025; WEBTOON removed Daily Pass in May 2025. The Japanese doujin stores lost Visa and Mastercard in a run of cutoffs that started in 2022 and peaked in 2024, collected in one timeline.
