What happened

Automaton reported on September 25, 2026 that Japanese artists on pixivFANBOX were receiving notices reading Following a notice from our payment processor, we have taken measures to suspend the publication of posts that may contain expressions subject to the "Items Requiring Revision" policy. The suspended posts were sexual or violent fiction, flagged by tags such as hypnosis, brainwashing and kidnapping. Some had been up for three to four years. FANBOX has not published the notice text itself; the wording comes from Automaton and creators' posts.

The rule behind it

The policy dates from 2022. pixiv announced on November 15, 2022 that from December 15 its terms would bar paid transactions on BOOTH, pixivFANBOX and Requests for content such as incest, bestiality and non-consensual sexual content, citing card networks' "Brand Protection" rules. FANBOX's guidelines now list those themes under Items Requiring Revision for drawn work, judged together with titles, tags and captions. What changed in September 2026 was enforcement: tags at the edges of those categories, applied to old posts.

FANBOX remains a place for R-18 work. It requires mosaics on genitals, sells monthly plans set by each creator at 100 to 10,000 yen, and bans live-action and AI-generated sexual work.

What it means for artists and supporters

For creators, tags now carry risk: a post can be pulled for its tags, captions and title as much as for the art. Old archives are not safe by default. Supporters lose access to suspended posts, and FANBOX gives no refunds or partial-month proration.

The same pressure has reshaped other platforms this year; see SubscribeStar's fiction-only rules. Rules across platforms are compared on content rules for adult creators, and the Japanese options for artists on best platforms for hentai artists. The mosaic requirement is explained under mosaic censorship. More stories are on the news page.
