What happened
Manga Planet was an English digital manga service that carried R18 titles. On January 23, 2025 it said Stripe would no longer make payments on Manga Planet due to R18 (Restricted 18+) content
, as Anime News Network reported; its Stripe account was suspended and banned, and PayPal became the only way to pay.
On October 1, 2025 Manga Planet announced the end of its digital platform, citing recent restrictions from payment processors and the changing online landscape
. It closed on March 31, 2026. Points and purchased content were not refunded. The BL service futekiya, which closed with it, is gone too, and the mangaplanet.com domain no longer resolves.

The Renta! transfer
In March 2026 ANN reported that Renta! would let Manga Planet users move eligible purchased titles to a Renta! library. The program ran until July 31, 2026. Anyone who did not transfer by then has no route left to those purchases that we know of. We could not check the details on Renta!'s own site, which returned errors.
What it means for readers
Manga Planet is one more case of a digital library disappearing with its store. A purchase on a reading platform is a license to read there, and when the platform closes, so does the license (Tapas buyers face the same thing in March 2027; see Tapas shutting down). The safest purchases are DRM-free files you can keep, compared on DRM-free downloads and readable offline as described in how to read manga offline.
