Best adult manga sites

Adult manga, not hentai

"Adult manga" covers a lot of ground. Some readers mean hentai; this page is for the rest: adult romance (the Japanese TL genre), 18+ boys' love, josei and seinen series with sex, violence or both. That work is sold by the big general manga stores behind an 18+ switch, and it is often explicit in theme without the full detail of a hentai release. If you want hentai, the stores are different and the ranking is on the best hentai manga sites.

We ranked the four services below on what their own pages publish: how much 18+ manga they list, how they charge, what is free, whether there is an app, and whether you can read offline. None of them says how it treats mosaics or edits in adult titles, so this list cannot rank on censorship.

MangaPlaza, run by NTT Solmare, has the largest English shelf of adult manga we found on a general store. Its genre directory lists 1,564 Adult Romance titles, every one tagged Mature (18+), and 1,935 of its 2,140 Boys' Love titles carry the same tag. It also has Harlequin adaptations (4,431 titles), Yuri, Workplace Romance, Omegaverse and BDSM categories. Mature titles are hidden until you flip an 18+ Content toggle and answer Are you over the age of 18?; no account is needed to browse that way.

You pay two ways. Points cost a flat 1 cent each (100 points = $1), in packs from $5 to $200, and purchased points expire after 36 months. Adult listings showed prices such as USD 1.99 / 199pt, though the listing does not say whether that buys a chapter or a volume. Premium is $6.99 a month and opens chapters marked Premium (Read from 30,000 Chapters*!), adds 5 to 10% bonus points on packs, and starts with a one-time 7-day free trial that converts to paid unless you cancel. The first chapter of most titles is free after sign-up.

Three limits rule it out for some readers. The terms say This Service is only available for use in the United States, and from Europe the home page showed a maintenance screen. There is no app, no download and no offline reading, by MangaPlaza's own FAQ. And Premium can only be cancelled on the website; it will not accept a cancellation by email. On the plus side, reading history can be cleared item by item.

BookWalker is KADOKAWA's English ebook store, now run by M12 Media at bookwalker.com, with a claimed catalog of more than 76,000+ officially licensed titles from Yen Press, Kodansha, VIZ Media and others. Its adult side is mature and ecchi manga: the Ecchi collection lists 9,687 books, of which 1,937 are hidden by the default content restrictions. Titles marked Mature content stay hidden until a signed-in reader turns them on in account settings. We saw no hentai shelf, and the Mature tag also covers mainstream series, so expect seinen and josei with adult content, not porn.

There is no subscription. You buy volumes or chapters with coins at 1 cent each, in packs from $0.99 to $99.99, and purchased coins never expire. Downloads are DRM-protected: you get a small .lcpl licence that opens in Readium LCP apps such as Thorium Reader and FBReader, and BookWalker says the file cannot be opened, converted, or extracted as a normal EPUB. Its own app's offline reading is unsettled: the support FAQ says the feature is coming soon, while the iOS store text says it exists. Nothing is refundable.

Manta

Best membership for manga plus manhwa

Manta is RIDI's English comics app, best known for Korean manhwa, and it added a manga tab on April 7, 2026, launching with a Kodansha promotion. Manta does not publish how many manga titles it carries, so it ranks here for the model around them. A Standard membership ($4.99 a month in the US App Store, $49.90 for 12 months) opens an Unlimited Library of 300+ titles; Premium ($9.99 a month in the app, $8.99 on the web) adds 1,420 Gems a month for pay-per-episode titles.

Two things set it apart from MangaPlaza. Downloads for offline reading are open to every user, member or not. And its 18+ material comes as [Full ver.] editions, which Manta describes as the complete form of a series ... available only to readers aged 18 and older, readable on the website only; the app shows versions tailored to be more suitable for its age rating. The age check is a birth date typed at sign-up that cannot be changed later. All payments are final. Its manhwa side is ranked on the best adult webtoon platforms.

Licensed comics, manga and webtoon app with a Mature section
Formats

INKR is a Singapore-run comics app that mixes manga, manhua, webtoons and western comics, with a Mature genre in its menu. That shelf warns Content may contain violence, sex, nudity, or strong language and then sends you to sign in, so what it holds is not public; the store apps are rated 13+. INKR was acquired by GlobalComix in March 2026.

The free tier is real: free titles and chapters with ads, plus Ink earned from tasks that rents chapters. Coins cost about 6.2 cents each on iOS (32 for $1.99 up to 1,600 for $99.99). INKR Extra, $4.99 a month on iOS, makes rentable chapters free, removes ads and adds offline downloads: Members can download any chapters they can access to read offline using the app. Fees are non-refundable. For mature manga on a phone without a browser, INKR and Manta are the two services here that download chapters for offline reading.

Which one fits which reader

A US reader who mostly wants adult romance or explicit BL should start with MangaPlaza: nothing else has 1,564 adult romance titles behind one toggle, and the 7-day trial lets you test Premium before paying $6.99 a month. Readers outside the US cannot use it, by its own terms.

Collectors who want the books to stay theirs, or who use an e-reader, belong on BookWalker, with the caveat that its files are DRM-locked to LCP apps. Readers who already pay for a manhwa membership can try Manta's manga tab at no extra cost. INKR is for people who want a single app with offline reading and do not mind that its Mature shelf is a closed box until you sign in.

BL readers have one more route. Irodori Comics runs a label called Sakura for BL, yuri and LGBTQ doujinshi, sold as DRM-free PDFs; it is a doujinshi publisher, so it is covered with the hentai stores. Our BL genre page lists every platform with a real BL category.

Apps, web and offline reading

The 18+ manga on these services mostly lives on the web. MangaPlaza has no app at all. Manta keeps [Full ver.] editions off its app because of store policy. BookWalker's app exists (rated 18+ on the App Store page, 13+ on Google Play) and mature titles depend on the account setting. INKR is the reverse case: the app is where offline reading happens, on INKR Extra.

If you want files you control, none of the four gives you DRM-free downloads. BookWalker comes closest with LCP files that open in third-party apps. For truly portable files you need a store that sells DRM-free PDFs, which in this market means the doujinshi publishers. The reading apps that open those files are compared on adult manga apps.

What about Lezhin, Tappytoon and Kindle?

Lezhin and Tappytoon come up in adult manga searches, but both are Korean webtoon stores and neither lists a manga section. Kindle carries licensed mature manga from publishers such as Seven Seas, whose imprint for mature readers is Ghost Ship, but Seven Seas itself says some of our more mature-rated series have had ebooks pulled or been made unavailable in their entirety, so expect gaps. A wider look at the term is on our adult manga overview.
