In short

  • MangaPlaza's adult shelves are big: 1,564 Adult Romance titles and 1,935 Mature BL titles.
  • Mature titles stay hidden until you flip an 18+ toggle and confirm your age. No account is needed for that.
  • Premium costs $6.99 a month with a one-time 7-day trial. Points cost 1 cent each.
  • Browser only: no app, no downloads, no offline reading.
  • The terms limit the service to the United States. From Europe the home page showed a maintenance page.

What is MangaPlaza?

MangaPlaza is an English manga store run by NTT Solmare Corporation, with payments handled by NTT Solmare Global, Inc., a Delaware company. Its support pages describe the aim as bringing high quality Japanese manga and other comics in an easily accessible digital format. The catalog comes from Japanese publishers plus in-house MangaPlaza Originals, and the home page claims over 170,000 chapters.

It is a general manga store with a large adult section, which sets it apart from hentai specialists. Alongside Adult Romance and BL it carries Harlequin adaptations (4,431 titles), light novels, shoujo romance and fantasy. Readers looking for explicit hentai manga in the FAKKU sense will find a different kind of catalog here: adult romance and BL licensed from Japanese publishers. Our other services are on the platforms hub.

Opening MangaPlaza outside the US

The terms are short on this point: This Service is only available for use in the United States. The FAQ softens it slightly, saying the service is primarily provided for users located in the United States.

When we opened it from a European server, the home page redirected to a maintenance page while the support pages loaded normally. From a US connection, the site worked. We could not confirm whether that page is a region block dressed as maintenance or real downtime, but given the terms, readers outside the US who see it should assume the store is not meant for them.

Adult manga on MangaPlaza

The adult side sits in a few genres. These are the genre directory's own counts:

GenreTitlesMarked Mature (18+)
Adult Romance1,564All
Boys' Love2,1401,935
Harlequin4,431Not counted

Adult Romance is the store's shelf for erotic romance manga, the category many stores sell as TL. The genre list also includes Yuri, Workplace Romance, Omegaverse and BDSM, and a Mature (18+) keyword runs across genres. For the wider field, adult manga explains the category, and the best adult manga sites ranks the stores that carry it.

Mature titles are filtered out by default. The help page says To access the titles that are being filtered out, turn on 18+ settings., and the switch brings up a pop-up: This will show mature content. Are you over the age of 18? That is the whole check, and it works without an account.

MangaPlaza says nothing about censorship. Japanese adult manga is normally printed with mosaics or bars at home (see mosaic censorship), and no page we read says whether MangaPlaza's English editions keep them.

Who MangaPlaza suits

US readers of adult romance manga and BL get large licensed English shelves for both, at a low monthly price, and they can browse it without signing up. Readers who want to own files, read offline or use an app will be disappointed, because MangaPlaza streams everything in the browser. And readers outside the US are, by the terms, not its audience.

Free chapters

MangaPlaza gives away the first chapter of most titles: We even offer the first chapter of most titles free to help get you started! Signing up opens more of them (Sign up and read the 1st chapter of even more titles for FREE!), and a Now Free section collects titles on free promotion. Beyond the first chapter, you pay with points or Premium. Other free routes are on free adult comics sites.

MangaPlaza prices: Premium and points

MangaPlaza publishes its prices openly:

Source: mangaplaza.com. Prices change with region, promotions and the store you buy through.

Premium at $6.99 a month

Premium costs a low monthly fee of $6.99 and opens chapters marked with the Premium icon (Read from 30,000 Chapters*!, the asterisk limiting it to those chapters). It also adds a Premium-only genre, member coupons and bonus points on point packs. It does not open the whole store: chapters without the icon still cost points.

New members get a 7-day free trial, once per user and payment method. It converts to paid on its own: Your Premium membership will not be automatically canceled after the free trial period.

Points

Points are simple: 100 points equates to 1 U.S. dollar (1 point = 1 cent). Packs run from 500 points for $5 to 20,000 for $200. Premium members get 5% extra on the two smallest packs and 10% on the rest. Points can cover part of a price, with the card paying the rest. Purchased points expire after 36 months, and the balance is capped at 100,000.

Adult Romance listings showed prices such as USD 1.99 / 199pt and USD 2.00 / 200pt, without saying whether that buys a chapter or a volume. Two sums from the published numbers: a Premium member buying the 10,000-point pack gets 11,000 points for $100, so a 199-point item costs about $1.81 instead of $1.99; and the $6.99 Premium fee is about the price of three and a half of those listings. Our adult comics pricing overview sets this against the other stores.

Cancelling and refunds

Premium can be cancelled only on the website: My Account, then Premium Membership Details, then Cancel Premium Membership. MangaPlaza is firm that Cancellation requests sent via email inquiry or any other method will not be accepted. If you take the trial, cancel there before day seven. More on store and web cancellations is in how to cancel a comic subscription.

Refunds are close to nonexistent: After you unlock a chapter or purchase points, no refunds will be made unless there is evidence of a site error. Charged Premium months are not refunded either.

Reading: browser only, no downloads

  • iPhoneNo"MangaPlaza is currently only available on browsers and there is no app version of our service."
  • AndroidNobrowser only (same FAQ answer)
  • BrowserYesbrowser only

MangaPlaza has no app on either store: MangaPlaza is currently only available on browsers and there is no app version of our service. Unlocked chapters stream; the FAQ says users may not download the content that they have unlocked onto their device and that users may not read the content available on MangaPlaza offline. A phone browser works, but you need a connection every time. Stores that let you keep files are compared on the offline reading page.

Account, history and privacy

Browsing and the 18+ toggle work without an account; unlocking, points and Premium need one. My Library keeps Favorites and a History list, and each history item has a trash icon, so you can clear what you have read one entry at a time. MangaPlaza does not publish the name that appears on a card statement.

Content rules

MangaPlaza publishes no content rules of its own for the catalog, and we found no statement that all characters are adults on the FAQ, the terms or the Adult Romance listing.

The Adult Romance genre has a School Life filter (20 titles, all marked Mature 18+); the blurbs on that listing name no school level below college, and the store also has a separate "College" tag.

On age, the terms say All Users must be over the age of 18 to view or to gain full access to the Contents, while an earlier clause lets people under 18 use the rest of the service with a parent's consent. The mature shelf relies on the self-declared toggle.

There is no creator program. MangaPlaza Originals are made in-house, and there is no way for artists to upload.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Large licensed Adult Romance and BL shelves, browsable without an account
  • Premium at $6.99 with a 7-day trial
  • Points at a straight 1 cent each, with Premium bonuses
  • Reading history can be cleared item by item

Cons

  • Browser only: no app, no downloads, no offline reading
  • US-only by its terms
  • No word on mosaics or censorship
  • No refunds on chapters, points or Premium months
  • Listing prices do not say whether they buy a chapter or a volume

MangaPlaza alternatives

BookWalker is the closest in kind: a mainstream English manga store paid in coins worth one cent each, with mature titles hidden until you switch them on. INKR mixes manga, manhua and webtoons, has a Mature shelf behind an account, and its INKR Extra plan ($4.99 on iOS) allows offline reading in the app, which MangaPlaza never does. For explicit, uncensored hentai manga instead of adult romance, FAKKU is the licensed store to look at, and our hentai manga sites list ranks the rest.

Final verdict

Verdict

For a US reader of adult romance manga or BL, MangaPlaza is an easy recommendation on catalog and price: thousands of Mature titles, Premium at $6.99 and points at a cent each, all browsable before you sign up. The limits are hard ones. It is US-only, it streams everything with no app or offline copy, and it refunds nothing. If you take the trial, put a reminder in for day six, since cancelling only works on the website.
