Best hentai manga sites

The best hentai manga sites for English readers are FAKKU, the biggest licensed publisher, and Irodori Comics, which sells uncensored doujinshi as DRM-free PDFs. Past those two stores, the money goes straight to Japanese artists on pixiv, pixivFANBOX, Fantia and Ci-en, and to indie creators on itch.io.

In short

  • FAKKU is the largest licensed English hentai publisher: books and doujinshi to buy and download, or the Unlimited subscription for magazine chapters (a 30-day prepaid card costs $14.95).
  • Irodori Comics sells uncensored doujinshi one at a time as DRM-free 3200 px PDFs, from $5.25 a title on the day we checked, with about 14 titles free to read.
  • pixiv is free and is where most Japanese hentai artists post first; pixivFANBOX, Fantia and Ci-en are where you pay them, with mosaics on everything.
  • No site here has an iPhone app for explicit reading. FAKKU and Irodori work in a phone browser.

What counts as a hentai manga site here

Hentai manga here means Japanese-style erotic comics: the chapters printed in adult manga magazines, collected volumes, and doujinshi (self-published books by individual artists and circles). The list ranks places to read them legally in English, where the artist or the licensor gets paid.

We ranked on what the services publish about themselves: whether the catalog is licensed or posted by the artist, what is free and how far it goes, the real price of a book or a month, whether you can keep a file, how censored the art is, and whether the thing works outside Japan. Every price and policy below comes from the service's own pages. We did not buy or subscribe to anything.

There are two kinds of site on this list. FAKKU and Irodori Comics are publishers: they license work from Japanese artists and publishers, translate it, and sell the English edition. pixiv, pixivFANBOX, Fantia, Ci-en and itch.io are platforms where artists post their own work, usually untranslated if they are Japanese. Most readers end up using one of each.

FAKKU calls itself the largest English hentai manga publisher in the world, and nobody else on this list comes close in volume. It sells two things. Collected books and doujinshi are bought one at a time: prices on the home page run from $6.48 on sale to $24.25, and a 63-page doujin is $8.50. FAKKU Unlimited is a subscription that opens the magazine catalog (Comic Kairakuten, Kairakuten BEAST, X-Eros, Bavel, Europa, Girls forM, Koh and Shitsurakuten) and claims over 10,000 hentai chapters, with new releases every day.

The recurring Unlimited price only shows after you sign in. What is public is the price of prepaid cards on FAKKU's merch store: 30 days for $14.95, 90 days for $44.85 and 365 days for $179.00, which works out at about $14.92 a month on the yearly card. A reader who buys two or three books a month is near the price of a month of Unlimited, so the subscription suits people who read magazine chapters as they come out; buying suits people who want to keep particular books.

Purchased books download as PDFs or zip archives of images at 2600 or 3200 px tall. FAKKU's help page does not say whether those files carry DRM, and it does not say whether Unlimited chapters can be downloaded at all. Most releases are uncensored and tagged as such, though FAKKU's tag index also has Mosaics and Whiteout tags for books that are not. One free title a week sits on the home page with a countdown, plus whatever carries the Free tag.

The weak spots are money and phones. Digital titles can be refunded within 3 days and only if not downloaded; Unlimited payments are never refunded, and the only way to cancel is the Subscription Settings page. There is no iPhone app, and the exclusive FAKKU Android App its subscription page mentions has no download link anywhere on the site. In December 2025 FAKKU's payment processor of 11 years ended its account, and FAKKU added direct bank transfers (the story is in our news piece on FAKKU's processor). Full prices are on what FAKKU costs.

Irodori Comics is a small publisher in Portland, Oregon that licenses doujinshi directly from Japanese artists and sells English editions. Its erotic line claims over 300 titles by our growing roster of over 100 doujinshi artists, which is a fraction of FAKKU's size, and there is no subscription. What it does better than anyone is the file: All our digital doujinshi works are DRM-free and can be downloaded for you to keep, as PDFs at 3200 px tall, from the product page or My Account.

Single doujinshi cost $5.25 to $14.95, and a compilation is $39.25. Its 99¢ Monthly Deals drop some titles to $0.99. About 14 artist-approved titles are free to read online, and for some of them the DRM-free file costs $0.10. Irodori sells the main line as uncensored English localizations; its terms keep a right to alter a release by obfuscation, interpretation, localization, and/or omission where details may face legal or moral challenge, so a book can arrive changed in places.

Limits worth checking before you register: users in Japan cannot view or buy uncensored content, and people in China, South Korea and New Zealand may not use the site at all. All sales are final except a duplicate purchase within 24 hours that you have not downloaded, and a chargeback ends the account and the library with it. Every product page carries a fiction disclaimer stating that all characters are at least 18. Irodori also runs a BL, yuri and LGBTQ label (Sakura) and an all-ages label (Aqua). For a side-by-side with FAKKU, see FAKKU vs Irodori.

pixiv

Best free place to find hentai artists

Price
Free tier · $4.15/mo
Type
illustration, manga and novel posting community
Formats

Yes

pixiv costs nothing to read, R-18 work included, and it is where most Japanese hentai and doujin artists post illustrations and short manga before they sell anything. There are no coins and no paywall on pixiv itself; pixiv Premium ($4.15 a month on the web outside Japan, or $41.41 a year) adds popularity search and removes ads, and it opens no works.

Seeing R-18 work takes a free account, a date of birth showing you are 18 or over, and the R-18 display setting switched on. pixiv says that setting can only be changed on the desktop or mobile website, not in the app. Everything is censored: pixiv requires mosaics of at least 4x4 pixels (or 1/100 of the long side on bigger images) over genitals, under Japanese law.

English-speaking readers should know about one more rule. Accounts whose region is set to the US or UK (since April 25, 2024), or Australia, Canada, the EU or New Zealand (since November 10, 2025) fall under regional terms that ban, among other things, simulated sexual content involving anyone under 18, non-consent and incest, and pixiv may hide such works from those accounts. pixiv sets the region from access data. Most of what you find is in Japanese, since artists post in their own language.

Best way to pay a Japanese artist monthly

pixivFANBOX is pixiv's fan-plan service. You follow an artist for free, then join one of their monthly plans, which artists set anywhere from 100 to 10,000 JPY; pixiv puts the average pledge at about 500 JPY. Supporters see that plan's posts for the month; FANBOX lists blogs, illustrations, manga, audio, video and attached files among what creators can post. Your card statement reads PIXIV FANBOX and never names the artist.

FANBOX charges the full plan price on the day you join, even on the 28th, then again between the 1st and 5th of each month. Leaving keeps access to the end of the month, and nothing is refunded. Since July 6, 2026 supporters in the EU pay VAT on top of the plan price. One payment quirk matters for adult readers: anyone who had not paid with PayPal on FANBOX before March 21, 2024 cannot use PayPal to support R-18 creators. There is no official app; FANBOX runs in the browser, mosaics are mandatory, and in September 2026 creators reported old posts being suspended after notices citing FANBOX's payment processor.

Fantia, run by the Japanese doujin retailer Toranoana, works like FANBOX with a shop attached. An artist's fan club can sell monthly plans (100 to 100,000 JPY, set by the creator), single back issues, downloadable works, physical goods and commissions from the same page. Since October 22, 2026 back issues can be bought without joining the plan, which suits a reader who wants one month's book and nothing else. Downloads are allowed for posted files.

For a reader outside Japan the hurdle is paying. Visa and Mastercard were suspended on May 21, 2024, so card payments are JCB and American Express only; other routes are Tora Coin (1 coin = 1 JPY, charged by PayPay, crypto and other methods) and Japanese convenience-store or bank options. Buyers have paid an 8% service fee on goods, tips and back issues since July 3, 2025, though drawn-work plans carry no buyer fee. The interface comes in five languages including English, but posts are mostly Japanese, search and rankings need a login, and there is no app. Fantia's 2026 mosaic dispute is covered on our uncensored hentai page.

itch.io is an open marketplace where artists sell or give away their own comics as DRM-free downloads, often pay-what-you-want. Its NSFW comics browse page lists 1,630 results, with 218 free comics tagged NSFW and on-sale prices from $1 to $8.99. Related tags on its Adult comics page include Doujinshi, Yaoi, Bara and Furry, so this is where western and independent artists who draw in a hentai style sell, alongside a great deal that is not manga at all.

Files are yours: itch.io says it hands buyers the files exactly as uploaded and has been DRM-free from day one. The NSFW pages sit behind a date-of-birth gate. The risk is the payment side: in July 2025 itch.io pulled adult pages from browse and search after pressure on its processors and suspended Stripe for 18+ pages, then brought free adult pages back a week later. Adult pages are also blocked for UK visitors under the Online Safety Act. Quality and tagging vary page by page, since nobody curates the catalog.

Ci-en is a fan-support site run by EISYS, with its R-18 side on ci-en.dlsite.com behind a simple are you 18 or over click-through. Circles post progress diaries and perks for monthly backers, on plans from 100 to 100,000 JPY. Backers keep access to every month they paid for after they leave, which is more generous than FANBOX or Fantia.

It ranks last here for two reasons. The daily ranking is almost all progress posts for doujin games, so comic artists are a minority. And card payments are JCB only, with 3-D Secure; the alternatives are Paidy and points bought elsewhere. Mosaics are required, as on every Japanese platform.

"Not confirmed" means the service does not say. FAKKU's Android app is the main example: claimed on one page, with no link to install it.

Publishers or artist platforms: which one you want

Pick a publisher if you want to read in English. FAKKU and Irodori translate everything they sell, remove mosaics on most releases, and give you a file or a library you can come back to. You pay per book or per month, and the money is split between the store and the artist on terms neither publishes; Irodori says it prioritizes the royalty they receive for each work sold.

Pick an artist platform if you follow particular Japanese artists and can live with Japanese text and mosaics. pixiv is free. FANBOX, Fantia and Ci-en send most of your money to the artist: their published fees are 12.9% (FANBOX, R-18 pages), 12.5% (Fantia, drawn work) and 13% (Ci-en, R-18 plans). You also see work months or years before any English edition, and plenty of it never gets one.

itch.io sits between the two: English, uncensored where the artist chooses, files you keep, and money that goes to the creator minus a share the creator picks (10% by default). Its catalog is mostly western indie work.

Irodori Comics about page explaining the publisher model

What free gets you

Free legal hentai manga exists, in small amounts. FAKKU gives away one title a week plus its Free tag. Irodori has about 14 free titles to read online. pixiv is entirely free once you have an account with the R-18 setting on, and Fantia and Ci-en artists often put some posts on free plans. itch.io had 218 free NSFW comics on the day we checked. None of that adds up to a full catalog, and the free sites that do offer one are scan aggregators that pay nobody. The longer list of free options is on free hentai manga sites.

What hentai manga costs

SiteHow you payPublished prices
FAKKUPer book, or Unlimited subscriptionBooks $6.48 (on sale) to $24.25; Unlimited prepaid cards $14.95 for 30 days, $179.00 for 365 days
Irodori ComicsPer title$5.25 to $14.95 per doujinshi, $39.25 for a compilation, some titles $0.99
pixivFree; optional PremiumPremium $4.15 a month or $41.41 a year (web, outside Japan)
pixivFANBOXMonthly plan per artist100 to 10,000 JPY a month, set by the artist
FantiaMonthly plan per artist, plus one-off sales100 to 100,000 JPY a month, set by the artist
itch.ioPer comic, often pay what you wantFree to $8.99 among NSFW comics on sale
Ci-enMonthly plan per circle100 to 100,000 JPY a month, set by the circle

The sum that matters is FAKKU's. At $14.95 for 30 days, Unlimited costs less than two $8.50 doujinshi, but you keep nothing when the card runs out. Irodori's model is the opposite: every dollar buys a file you own.

Reading on a phone

None of these services sells explicit hentai through an iPhone app, and that is down to the stores: Apple's guideline 1.1.4 bans overtly sexual or pornographic material, and Google Play's exception for book catalogs excludes porn. FAKKU and Irodori both read in a mobile browser, and FAKKU ships a web app manifest, so you can add it to the home screen. pixiv has official apps rated 17+, but the R-18 switch lives on the website. FANBOX, Fantia and Ci-en are browser only.

Files from Irodori, itch.io and FAKKU's book downloads open in ordinary comic readers. Which readers handle them, and which have a passcode lock, is on the best hentai manga apps.

Best porn manga sites: the same list

People who search "porn manga" get video sites first, because Google reads the phrase as video. For comics, the licensed porn manga stores are the ones above: FAKKU and Irodori for English editions, the Japanese artist platforms for the originals. Adult romance and BL manga that is mature without being hentai (MangaPlaza's Adult Romance shelf, for example) is a different market, ranked on the best adult manga sites.

What about Kindle?

Amazon is the default ebook store for many readers, but it is not a hentai store. Its KDP content guidelines say Amazon does not sell content that contains pornography. Mature-rated manga from licensed publishers does appear there, with gaps: Seven Seas, which lists Amazon first among its ebook retailers, says some of our more mature-rated series have had ebooks pulled or been made unavailable in their entirety. Readers who want explicit work end up at the specialist stores.

Amazon Kindle logo

Payment and region problems to expect

Adult manga stores lose payment processors more often than any other kind of bookshop. In the past two years FAKKU's processor ended its account, Fantia lost Visa and Mastercard, itch.io suspended Stripe for adult pages, and the licensed manga service Manga Planet closed in March 2026, citing restrictions from payment processors. A practical habit: download what you buy where the service allows it, because a store that loses its processor may not keep its doors open.

Region rules matter too. Irodori blocks China, South Korea and New Zealand outright, and blocks uncensored content in Japan. pixiv applies stricter content rules to accounts in the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. itch.io blocks adult pages in the UK.

If you are moving over from a free scan aggregator, our nhentai alternatives page maps what those readers usually want to the licensed options. Scan sites pay the artists nothing, and their catalogs carry material we will not list. For the search side, how to find hentai manga covers tags, artist names and following circles, and our hentai manga overview explains the term itself.

FAQ

What is the best hentai manga site?

For English readers, FAKKU: it has the largest licensed catalog, uncensored on most releases, with books to buy and download and an Unlimited subscription for magazine chapters. Irodori Comics is the better pick if you want DRM-free files and only buy a few doujinshi.

Is FAKKU worth it?

It depends on how you read. A 30-day Unlimited card costs $14.95 and opens the magazine catalog, which FAKKU says holds over 10,000 chapters. If you only want two or three specific books, buying them (from about $6.48 on sale) gets you downloadable files you keep, and Unlimited payments are never refunded.

Is there a free legal hentai manga site?

pixiv is free, R-18 included, once you have an account aged 18 or over with the R-18 setting switched on, but the work is censored and mostly in Japanese. FAKKU has a free title each week and Irodori about 14 free titles to read online.

Can I read FAKKU on an iPhone?

Yes, in Safari. FAKKU has no iPhone app, and the Android app its subscription page mentions has no download link on the site. The website works in a mobile browser and can be added to the home screen.

Where can I buy doujinshi in English?

Irodori Comics and FAKKU both license and translate doujinshi. Irodori sells each one as a DRM-free PDF; FAKKU sells them as downloads and carries more in its catalog. On itch.io, indie artists sell their own doujinshi-style comics. More on the format is on where to buy doujinshi.

Is reading hentai manga online legal?

Reading licensed hentai from a store like FAKKU or Irodori, or work artists post themselves on pixiv or FANBOX, is how the industry expects to be paid, and both stores require you to be 18 and to live somewhere sexually explicit material is legal. Scan aggregators host work without permission. Our guide on licensed vs pirated sites goes through the difference.

More ranked lists are on the best adult comics sites hub.
