Fantia in English for adult creators and fans

Fantia is Toranoana's Japanese fan club platform, and its interface has an English option, but payouts, ID checks and card payments all work on Japanese terms. Adult illustration and hentai manga are allowed with thick bars or mosaics, drawn categories pay a 12.5% fee, and fans can pay by card only with JCB or American Express since Visa and Mastercard were suspended in May 2024.

In short

  • Fantia's interface switches to English, Korean and Chinese; creator posts, help pages and notices are mostly Japanese.
  • Adult work is allowed for ID-verified creators 18 and over. Genitals and penetration must be hidden by thick bars or an opaque mosaic that stays unreadable at thumbnail size.
  • Drawn categories pay a 12.5% platform fee (17.5% for live action). A 1,000 yen plan leaves 875 yen before the 330 yen transfer fee.
  • Overseas payouts, by bank or PayPal, are only for permanent overseas residents with 50,000 yen in sales.

What Fantia is

Fantia (ファンティア) is a creator support platform run by Toranoana Inc. (株式会社虎の穴), the Akihabara doujin retailer. Its terms were enacted on May 1, 2016, and in March 2026 it marked its tenth anniversary. The site has three brands on the front page: general (male-oriented), female-oriented and all-ages.

A creator opens a fan club and sells several things from it: monthly plans priced from 100 to 100,000 yen (about $0.64 to $636), free plans, back numbers of past months, download goods, physical goods, commissions, tips, lottery goods and paid one-to-one sessions. Since October 22, 2026, back numbers can be bought without joining the plan, so a fan can buy one past month's chapter on its own.

Fantia's creator categories include illustration, manga, 3D, 2D animation, game production, novels, audio and VTubers, plus live-action categories. Doujin circles sell their downloads through the product feature, though Fantia has no category named doujinshi. More on the format is on our page on buying doujinshi.

Fantia in English: who it suits

The English interface covers the buttons, menus and checkout. It does not translate creators' posts, which are mostly in Japanese, and most of the help center and every policy notice are Japanese. A reader who wants to support a Japanese artist can manage with the interface and a translation tool. A creator outside Japan faces bigger obstacles than language: the payout rules below.

Fantia suits Japanese-speaking doujin and hentai artists who want plans, downloads, goods and commissions in one place, and whose readers can pay by JCB, American Express or Japanese payment methods. It is browser only, and logged-out visitors cannot search or see rankings.

What adult work Fantia allows and what it bans

Fantia's help answers the question "can I post adult content" with "はい、できます" (yes, you can), for creators who are not 18歳未満および高校在学中の方 (under 18, or still enrolled in Japanese upper secondary school). The guideline defines adult content as scenes showing 性的好奇心をそそるための行為を表す場面や衣服を脱いだ状態 (acts meant to arouse sexual curiosity, or undressed states). Staff check every post by eye.

The mosaic standard for drawn work

Uncensored images are banned outright: 無修正画像や無断転載画像の投稿は絶対におやめください。 (never post uncensored images or reposted images). For non-live-action work, concealment covers all genitals, human or not, and any area suggesting them, plus penetration. The accepted methods are 太目の「黒塗り」あるいは「白塗り」で複数線の修正、もしくは性器が見えない程度の「モザイク」: several thick black or white bars, or a mosaic strong enough that the genitals cannot be seen. The covered parts must stay unrecognizable even when the image is shrunk to thumbnail size.

Two rules catch digital artists. PSD and CLIP files may not carry hidden layers with uncensored data, and linking to external storage or sites with uncensored files is banned. AI-generated data is banned in all paid and product content (allowed only in titles, eyecatch images and body text) since May 23, 2023.

Other bans in the common rules: 過度の猥褻性がある表現、または過度に歪んだ状態での性表現作品 (excessively obscene or excessively distorted sexual depictions), cruel or violent work that causes disgust, and deepfakes of real people.

What Fantia does not say about characters' ages

The posting guideline's section for drawn work has no age rule and no statement that every character must be an adult. The terms ban sexual content about real children under 18, and the live-action rules ban subjects who cannot be shown to be adults, realistic 3DCG included. That is all the written policy says. Patreon and SubscribeStar, by comparison, spell out appearance-based rules for drawn characters. A side-by-side is on our creator content rules page.

ID and age checks

Every fan club, all-ages included, must submit photo ID through an eKYC check before selling. The accepted documents are Japanese photo IDs; residents abroad submit an equivalent government photo ID. The payout account must be in the ID holder's name. The system arrived in December 2024, and IDs sent before December 11, 2024 had to be submitted again.

For fans, the R18 zones have shown a self-declaration screen since March 19, 2026: answering the confirmation question is all it takes. Adult posts are shown or hidden by an account setting, and logged-out visitors see the all-ages entrance. The terms set no minimum age, say minors need a guardian's consent, and bar minors from buying adult content.

Fantia fees

The platform fee comes off fan club fees and product sales, tax included:

Sales typePlatform fee since December 1, 2025Before
Illustration, manga, 3D, 2D animation, games, audio, novels12.5%10%
Live-action categories17.5%15%
Lottery and meet goods30%

On top of that, buyers pay an 8% service fee on download goods, physical goods, commissions, tips and back numbers since July 3, 2025, and on live-action plan payments since November 27, 2025. Drawn-work plans carry no buyer fee. Fantia's own example: a 1,000 yen live-action plan costs the fan 1,080 yen, a 1,000 yen illustration plan costs 1,000 yen.

For a manga artist, a 1,000 yen plan leaves 875 yen. A 500 yen back number costs the fan 540 yen with the buyer fee, and the artist keeps 437.5 yen of the 500. Tips go to the creator in full apart from the fees. Fees across platforms are compared on the creator fees page.

Payouts and the overseas rule

Fantia pays monthly, with a lag. A creator claims a month's sales between the 10th and the 25th of the following month, and the money is sent on the 10th of the month after that, so roughly 40 days after the month closes. Each domestic claim costs 330 yen, and the transfer arrives in the name カ)トラノアナ. A month under 3,000 yen that is not claimed rolls into the next, and unclaimed sales lapse 360 days after they are tallied. No withholding tax is deducted. Sales can also be converted to Tora Coin.

The overseas rule is the one that decides it for most artists outside Japan. Help article 270 says overseas transfers, to a bank account or PayPal, are 恒久的な海外在住者様のみ (only for permanent overseas residents), and only once sales reach 50,000 yen, with the remittance fee deducted. A creator who meets both conditions can be paid abroad. Others need a Japanese bank account in their own name. Other platforms' payout reach is on our payout methods page.

How fans pay, what the statement says and how to leave

Card payments take JCB and American Express only. Visa and Mastercard were suspended from 15:30 on May 21, 2024, and no notice of their return has been found. The other methods:

  • Tora Coin, a prepaid currency at 1 coin to 1 yen, usable on Fantia and Toranoana's mail order, charged with JCB, American Express, PayPay, FamiPay, au PAY, Merpay, Bitcash, crypto and others
  • Convenience store payment and Pay-easy bank transfer, prepaid month by month
  • atone pay-later and Minna Bank

Joining charges a full calendar month with no proration, even late in the month, and plans renew automatically on the 1st. The card statement shows ファンティア or Fantia.jp, never the fan club's name.

To leave, open the fan club's plan list or the list of joined fan clubs (参加しているファンクラブ) and use 「プランを変更」 (change plan). The current month stays charged in full. Prepaid store or bank-transfer plans simply lapse. On refunds, Fantia says デジタルコンテンツの性質上、返金やキャンセルはできません。 (digital content cannot be refunded or canceled); a missing perk or broken file should be reported within 7 days, and a refund is not guaranteed.

Apps

  • iPhoneNoHelp 1283: "現在、アプリのご用意はございません。ブラウザでお楽しみください。"
  • AndroidNoHelp 1283: no app; browser only.
  • BrowserYesBrowser only.

There is no app. Fantia's help says it has none and asks users to use the browser. Posted files can be downloaded, though some iOS setups stream video and audio instead.

The mosaic reversal is told in full on our Fantia mosaic rules news page.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • A lower fee for drawn work (12.5%) than for live action
  • No buyer fee on illustration and manga plans
  • The statement shows Fantia, not the fan club
  • Plans, single back numbers, downloads, goods and commissions from one page

Cons

  • No Visa or Mastercard; cards limited to JCB and American Express
  • 8% buyer fee on goods, tips, commissions and back numbers
  • Overseas payouts only for permanent residents abroad with 50,000 yen in sales
  • No app; search and rankings need a login; posts mostly in Japanese

Alternatives

pixivFANBOX is the main rival for Japanese adult illustration: 12.9% on R-18 pages, Visa and Mastercard accepted, and PayPal payouts open to creators outside Japan, but income only from monthly plans (goods go through a separate BOOTH Secret Shop) and strict tag moderation since 2026. Ci-en charges 13% on R-18 plans, takes only JCB cards, and pays overseas creators through PayPal in yen. Skeb is for commissions, paid out only in Japan.

Artists writing for English-speaking readers can compare Patreon and SubscribeStar, which need no mosaics and pay out to Western accounts but spell out bans on incest and non-consent in drawn work. The rankings are on the platforms for hentai artists and the creators hub.

FAQ

Can you use Fantia in English?

The interface has an English option, along with Korean and Chinese. Creators' posts, most help articles and all notices are in Japanese.

How do I pay on Fantia without Visa or Mastercard?

With a JCB or American Express card, or with Tora Coin, which can be charged through PayPay, Merpay, crypto and other methods. Convenience store, Pay-easy, atone and Minna Bank are the Japanese options.

Can creators outside Japan sell on Fantia?

They can pass the eKYC check with a government photo ID, but overseas payouts are only for permanent overseas residents whose sales reach 50,000 yen. Others need a Japanese bank account.

Yes. Genitals and penetration must be covered by thick black or white bars or an opaque mosaic that stays unrecognizable at thumbnail size. The stricter rule tried in May 2026 now applies only to live action.

How do I cancel a Fantia plan?

Use 「プランを変更」 from the fan club's plan list or the joined fan clubs list. The current month is not refunded or prorated.

Final verdict

Verdict

Fantia is a strong fit for Japanese adult manga and doujin artists who want plans and downloads in one shop, with a fair fee on drawn work and no buyer fee on plans. For anyone outside Japan the English menu hides the real limits: JCB or American Express for fans, mosaics for creators, and payouts abroad only for permanent residents past 50,000 yen.
