In short
- Explicit drawn, animated and 3D work is allowed. Content with real people as the primary subject has been banned since March 11, 2026.
- Banned in fiction too: characters who are or look under 18 "regardless of artistic style", incest, and non-consent including hypnosis and intoxication.
- The adult site charges a 10% service fee plus processing of 3% + $0.30 up to 10% + $0.40, and the artist decides whether fans pay the processing part.
- Payouts happen only on request, from a $150 balance, by bank transfer.
- Card statements read "SUBSCRIBE STAR" plus the support phone number.
What SubscribeStar Adult is
SubscribeStar runs on three domains. subscribestar.adult is the adult site, and its page titles and footer now say SubscribeStar.art; subscribestar.art serves the same site. www.subscribestar.com is a separate safe-for-work sister site whose calculator shows a 5% service fee against the adult site's 10%. The operator named in the footer is Starcling, LLC of Sheridan, Wyoming.
The adult site calls itself the "Number one monetization platform for NSFW digital artists" and names "2D/3D artists, 18+ game developers, erotic voice actors" as its fit. Artists sell subscription tiers they price themselves, plus tips, paid posts, collections and commissions. The terms put the maximum subscription price at "typically ranging between $100 and $250", set per creator.
There is no category menu. The home page shows hashtags taken from featured creators' own tags, among them Art, Comics, Hentai, Animation, 3D, Games, Visual novels and Erotica, each one opening a search.
Who it suits
SubscribeStar suits adult comic, hentai and 3D comic artists who want a membership site where explicit work is the expected use, not a tolerated corner. For a Western artist it is the main membership alternative to Patreon that permits explicit work, since Gumroad and Ko-fi do not. The 3D side matters: Patreon bans "hyperrealistic" sexual activity, and SubscribeStar's rule is about real people, not render style.
It suits artists less well if they need money monthly without asking, have only a handful of subscribers, or draw the themes the March 2026 rules removed. For the reader the site works like any membership page: pick a tier, pay, read the locked posts in the browser.
What adult work SubscribeStar allows and what it bans
The Prohibited Content page, updated March 11, 2026, opens with the scope:
SubscribeStar is a platform designed for digital artists and creators publishing fictional works, including 2D/3D art, animation, comics, and written content.
Real people are out entirely: Content where real people are the primary subject is not permitted on this platform under any circumstances.
Creators who make that kind of content may be moved "to our partner platforms". The page gives its reason in one line, To comply with legal requirements, payment processors, and acquiring bank standards, certain types of content are not permitted
.
Themes banned in fictional work
These are the lines that decide whether a hentai comic can stay. Quoted from the section on obscenity, abuse and harm:
Any depiction of underage or underage-appearing characters in sexualized circumstances, regardless of artistic style
Sexualized depictions of characters from films, games, anime, comics, or other media that are canonically underaged, even if such characters are aged-up by a textual 18+ statement
Characters portrayed with body proportions and features commonly associated with minors
, with the rule thatvisual appearance takes precedence over written disclaimers
- Incest:
Content depicting sexual relationships between close family members is prohibited
,regardless of whether the characters are fictional or animated
- Non-consent, including situations where consent is removed through
mind control or hypnosis, drugs, intoxication, or incapacitation
The list goes on with bestiality, extreme gore, deepfakes, fetishized bodily waste, extreme bodily fluids, explicit degradation imagery
, live streams of any kind, and links to third-party sites that carry prohibited content. That last one means a SubscribeStar page cannot point fans to the banned material hosted somewhere else.
Fan-art artists should read the second line twice. An anime character who is canonically under 18 stays banned even if the artist writes "18+" in the caption.
The rules side by side with Patreon's and the Japanese platforms' are on the adult content rules page.

ID checks and the age gate
Every creator passes "the KYC and profile screening process" before publishing anything others can see. After that, All content submitted ... is subject to a pre-screening and review process prior to publication.
New chapters therefore wait for review before fans see them. The payouts policy also lists "age-verification or age-estimation checks" as a cost that can be passed through to creators.
Visitors meet a gate that asks for a date of birth: "You must be 18+ to visit this website ... Enter Your Date of Birth". The terms require users to be at least 18, or the age of majority where they live if that is higher.
SubscribeStar fees
The pricing page (updated September 1, 2025) has two parts: a 10% platform service fee, and payment processing "from 3% + $0.30 to 10% + $0.40" applied by third-party processors. The artist chooses whether they absorb processing or pass it on to subscribers at checkout. Fans paying with a non-US card may also see a 3.5% international transaction fee.
The arithmetic on a $5 tier, with the artist absorbing processing:
- At the low end: $0.50 service fee plus $0.45 processing (3% of $5 is $0.15, plus $0.30). The artist keeps $4.05.
- At the high end: $0.50 plus $0.90 (10% of $5, plus $0.40). The artist keeps $3.60, or 72%.
Pass processing to fans and the artist keeps $4.50 while the fan pays more than $5. Two older or edge-case figures also appear: the FAQ still gives "4.99% + $0.30 on average" for a card payment, the terms say the platform "may take flat 10% processing fee" on transactions over $30, and heavy API users "may incur extra 3-5% fee".
Fans can also load Wallet Tokens, prepaid credits for subscriptions and purchases inside SubscribeStar. A wallet may not hold more than the equivalent of $500, and token purchases are generally non-refundable.

Payouts
Payouts are where SubscribeStar asks the most patience. Nothing is paid automatically. The Payouts Policy, updated October 29, 2026, sets these conditions:
- A balance of at least $150 to become eligible; for some US creators the threshold is $30. The FAQ adds 5 active subscribers and a minimum request of $50.
- At least 10 business days since the last processed request.
- Requests under $5,000 are paid within up to 10 business days of approval.
- The platform may hold back 10% of collected funds, at least $35, for 30 business days as a rolling reserve.
- Profiles with fewer than five active subscribers can face a risk period of up to 90 days.
Money goes out by bank transfer (ACH, wire, SWIFT) or to another account that accepts those transfers; support has the full list. The policy wants two payout methods set up, one primary and one backup. The payout fee depends on the method and is shown only after a request, so we cannot quote it. W-9, W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E forms, plus DAC7-type reporting details, are required before any payout.
A new artist with three subscribers at $5 collects $15 a month before fees, so the $150 line is many months away. Compare payout methods across creator platforms before choosing.
How fans pay, what the statement says and how to cancel
Fans subscribe with a registered account and pay "on the schedule set by the Star", which is the site's word for a creator. The FAQ says charges will be shown on your bank/credit card statements as SUBSCRIBE STAR and our Support's contact phone number
. The descriptor names the platform and not the adult domain or the artist.
Fans can cancel at any time, either immediately or at the end of the paid period, and the site asks for a reason during cancellation. Refunds go by email to support@subscribestar.adult with the reason stated, and are reviewed case by case under the Refund Policy updated June 29, 2026. SubscribeStar does not refund for a creator failing to deliver content, and users who repost content are not eligible.
Apps
- BrowserYes
SubscribeStar is used in the browser. No native app turned up in an App Store search, though SubscribeStar does not say either way. Fans read locked posts in a mobile browser like any other page.

Pros and cons
Pros
- Explicit drawn and 3D adult work is the stated purpose of the adult site
- A published prohibited-content list with exact wording
- The artist decides who pays processing
- 3D art is judged on whether real people appear, not on how realistic the render looks
Cons
- Processing can reach 10% + $0.40 on top of the 10% service fee
- Payouts only on request, from $150, with reserves and holds on small profiles
- Incest, non-consent and hypnosis themes common in hentai are banned
- Every post waits for pre-screening
Alternatives
Patreon allows the same broad range of drawn explicit work on paywalled Adult/18+ pages, with payouts any time to PayPal, Payoneer or a US bank. Its theme bans are close to SubscribeStar's, and it adds a hard rule that every public preview must be clean.
Artists with Japanese readers look at pixivFANBOX (12.9% on R-18 pages, PayPal payouts for non-Japanese artists), Fantia (12.5% on drawn work) and Ci-en (13% on R-18 plans). All three require mosaics. Skeb takes commissions for single pieces and comic pages, paid out only in Japan. Gumroad bans adult comics outright, so it is no fallback.
More options sit on the creators hub and in our ranking of platforms for adult comic creators.

Final verdict
Verdict
SubscribeStar Adult is the membership site most openly built for explicit drawn and 3D comics, and since March 2026 it is also one of the strictest about themes, with every post screened first. Choose it for 3D work or for a home where adult art is the norm; expect to wait for payouts, and check a back catalog against the banned list before moving it.
