Skeb commissions and R-18 requests

Skeb is a Japanese commission site where a fan names a price and sends one request, and the artist either delivers or lets it lapse. R-18 commissions are allowed for drawn art and comic pages when flagged NSFW and censored under Japanese law, artists pay 6.8% to 9.8% per request, and payouts go only to a Japanese bank account or Kyash.

In short

  • Skeb sells one-shot commissions: the client sets the amount and writes the request, and there is no messaging, no sketch stage and no retake.
  • NSFW requests are allowed for drawn artwork and comics when flagged and censored under Japanese law. Live-action NSFW, AI data and 3D models are banned.
  • Artists pay a request fee of up to 9.8%, cut to 8.3% or 6.8% under two conditions. Clients pay nothing on top.
  • Payouts go only to a Japanese bank account (458 yen per withdrawal) or Kyash (254 yen).

What Skeb is

Skeb (スケブ) is run by Skeb Inc., formerly 外神田商事, under terms enacted on November 1, 2018 and last revised on July 30, 2026. Its own definition: Skeb is a service where a client (your fan) sends you a request (a theme) for a fee, and the creator (you) will create an Artwork or Voice and receive a payment.

The model is deliberately narrow. A client picks an artist, names an amount at or above the artist's minimum, and writes the request. The artist approves or ignores it. There are no messages back and forth, no sketches for approval and no retakes. The artist keeps the copyright, and only the client can download the original file; everyone else sees a reduced preview up to 800 pixels wide. Requests are machine-translated, and Skeb says about 35% of its clients are overseas.

Request genres are formats: Artwork, Comic ("Cartoons that a creator directly drew"), Voice, Text, Video, Music and Advice. Comic is the one that matters here. A fan can commission a short manga or a single comic page from an artist whose doujin work they follow.

Who it suits

Skeb suits Japanese artists who want paid requests without negotiating, and fans anywhere who want one piece from a specific Japanese artist. Skeb gives the average approved amount for an Artwork as 12,000 yen (about $76).

It suits artists outside Japan poorly, because the money can only leave Skeb into a Japanese bank account or Kyash. It is also no place for a serialized comic with monthly backers: Skeb has no subscriptions.

What R-18 work Skeb allows and what it bans

NSFW requests are allowed for drawn work, under two conditions. The request must carry the NSFW flag, and the delivered work must be censored. The client guidelines give the test for the flag in one line, Whether or not it is fine to display a poster on the street, and say the detailed criteria follow those of Misskey.io, which we have not read. On censoring:

Japanese laws and regulations are applied to all the works, including the ones with the hidden setting. artworks and cartoons that are NSFW need appropriate obscuring processing.

Skeb checks this by machine. All Artworks and cartoons are scanned with the image recognition system at the time of delivery and some may be set as NSFW. You cannot cancel NSFW. A PSD whose censor layer could be separated is rejected at delivery with an error. Age-restricted images may not be used as a profile icon or header.

Banned outright: NSFW of live filming in any genre, AI-generated data, 3D models and screenshots in Artwork and Comic. The terms also list, among prohibited acts, 露骨な性的表現...を含み他人に不快感を与える表現を、投稿または送信する行為 (posting or sending expressions that include explicit sexual expression and make others uncomfortable). That sits awkwardly next to the NSFW rules; Skeb does not explain how the two fit.

No page we read, terms or either guideline, says depicted characters must be adults. Patreon and SubscribeStar both have such rules. Our comparison of rules across platforms is on the creator content rules page.

ID and age checks

Accounts sign in through X, Misskey.io, Bluesky, VRChat or email. To open for requests, an artist links a public social account; a private account cannot take requests, and very new accounts may be refused. Opening and accepting requests is free. Skeb publishes no ID check for artists.

We saw no age gate on Skeb's public pages, and the NSFW display settings need an account to check. The terms set no minimum age and require a guardian's consent for minors. Nationals of, or traders with, countries under Japanese sanctions are barred.

Skeb fees

The client pays the amount and nothing more: A fee is included in the amount of money and will not be separately charged to a client. The artist pays the fee out of it:

  • Up to 9.8% per request.
  • 8.3% if one of two conditions is met, 6.8% if both are: requests have been open continuously for the past 30 days in that genre, and the Skeb URL is in the linked X profile. The second condition does not count for requests under 5,000 yen.
  • Boosts, extra money a client adds after delivery, carry a fee of up to 13.6%.

On Skeb's 12,000 yen average, 9.8% leaves the artist 10,824 yen and 6.8% leaves 11,184 yen, before the withdrawal fee. A 5,000 yen comic page at 9.8% leaves 4,510 yen; take out the 458 yen bank withdrawal and 4,052 yen arrives, unless several deliveries are withdrawn together. That puts Skeb well under the 12.5% to 13% the Japanese fan-plan sites take on adult plans. The comparison is on our creator fees page.

Payouts

Skeb's creator guidelines: Regarding the withdrawal destinations, it is compatible with Japanese bank accounts or Kyash. Nothing else is accepted. Each withdrawal costs 458 yen to a bank or 254 yen to Kyash, and a failed transfer adds 880 yen.

Artists choose Express, which withdraws after each delivery, or Monthly. Money is credited to the artist's balance seconds after delivery, and the transfer itself is immediate with zero-time bank transfer or Kyash, otherwise within 24 hours. No minimum is stated. Unwithdrawn sales lapse a year after they accrue.

For an artist without a Japanese bank account, Skeb's low fee does not help. Platforms that pay abroad are listed on the payout methods page.

How clients pay, refunds and canceling

Clients pay by card, which is authorized when the request is sent and charged when the artist approves it, or with Skeb points. Points are prepaid at 1 point to 1 yen and can be bought by card, bank transfer, convenience store, Minna Bank, au PAY, Pay-easy, deferred payment, atone, Alipay, WeChat Pay, KakaoPay, GCash, DANA, Touch'n Go eWallet and cryptocurrency. Points are never refunded. Which card brands work is not confirmed; the client guidelines say usable cards are not guaranteed.

A request the artist has not approved can be canceled by the client. If a request is not approved, or not delivered by the deadline, the client gets a full refund; card refunds can take up to 150 days depending on the card network. Once a work is delivered, the terms say Skeb has no duty to refund unless both sides agree to cancel. Skeb does not publish the name that appears on a card statement.

Apps

Skeb is used on the web. App availability was not checked.

Recent policy changes

Skeb's terms were enacted on November 1, 2018 and last revised on July 30, 2026. No dated policy change affecting NSFW requests turned up beyond that revision. The terms reserve the right to show ads in future.

Alternatives

For commissions with back-and-forth, Fantia lets creators sell commissions from a fan club (12.5% on drawn work, plus an 8% buyer fee), and SubscribeStar lists commissioned artwork among its payout types. Patreon artists can sell one-off posts. Ko-fi has commissions built in but bans pornography and sexualized nudity, so it suits only safe-for-work requests.

For recurring income, pixivFANBOX and Ci-en are the Japanese monthly-plan sites with R-18 allowed. The full list is on the creators hub, and Japanese platforms are ranked on the best platforms for hentai artists.

Final verdict

Verdict

Skeb is the cheapest way here for a Japanese artist to take R-18 commissions, and the simplest way for a fan anywhere to pay for one censored piece or comic page. Its no-messaging rule rewards clear requests. Artists who cannot receive money in Japan should look at SubscribeStar, which lists commissioned artwork among its payout types and pays by bank transfer abroad.
