In short
- For explicit memberships in English, SubscribeStar is built for NSFW artists and Patreon has the larger audience; both take 10% plus processing.
- For a finished comic sold as a download, itch.io lets the creator set the platform's cut (10% by default).
- For Japanese readers, pixivFANBOX (12.9% on R-18 pages) and Fantia (12.5% on drawn work) are the main fan-plan sites, and both require mosaics.
- Gumroad, Ko-fi, GlobalComix, WEBTOON Canvas and Tapas do not accept explicit comics.
What the ranking is based on
We ranked platforms on four things we could check in each one's own documentation: whether it allows explicit drawn comics in writing, how much it takes from a sale, how an artist outside the US or Japan gets paid, and how often its adult rules have moved in the last two years. Audience size counts where the platform publishes something about it, which is rarely. Nothing here is a score. A platform near the bottom can be the right one for a particular comic, and each entry says who it fits.
Every platform on this list bans some themes that are common in porn comics and hentai. Read the rules section of each pick before choosing, because a comic that breaks them gets hidden or removed whatever the fee is.

SubscribeStar
Best for explicit subscriptions

- Type
- subscription platform for NSFW digital artists (adult site) with a separate SFW site
- Formats
- western comics, manga, 3D comics
- Free reading

SubscribeStar's adult site (subscribestar.adult, whose pages now read SubscribeStar.art) calls itself the Number one monetization platform for NSFW digital artists
, and its rules open by naming comics among the work it exists for. Explicit drawn and 3D work is the point of the site. Since March 11, 2026 it hosts fictional work only: real people are banned as the main subject.
The fee is a 10% service fee plus payment processing that SubscribeStar quotes as anything from 3% + $0.30 to 10% + $0.40, and the creator decides whether subscribers pay the processing part. Payouts are slower than elsewhere. They go out on request only, by bank transfer (ACH, wire or SWIFT), once the balance reaches $150 (some US creators $30), with at least 10 business days between requests. SubscribeStar may hold back 10% of collected funds for 30 business days, and profiles with fewer than five subscribers can face a risk period of up to 90 days.
Every creator passes KYC and profile screening before publishing, and every post is screened before it goes live. The banned list is long and specific: incest regardless of whether the characters are fictional or animated
, non-consent including mind control or hypnosis, drugs, intoxication
, and characters with body proportions and features commonly associated with minors
, where visual appearance takes precedence over written disclaimers
.
Patreon
Best for memberships plus one-off sales
- Price
- Free
- Type
- membership platform where creators sell subscriptions and one-time purchases to fans
- Formats
- western comics, manga, webtoons
- Free reading
- Yes
Patreon allows sexual work between non-real subjects (illustrated, animated, written) on pages marked Adult/18+. Before such a page can use Patreon's features, the creator passes an ID and selfie check through a third-party vendor, which Patreon says Mastercard and Visa require. Explicit posts must sit behind the paywall. The profile image, banner, tier descriptions, free posts and shop previews must be clean: Nudity and sexually explicit material are never allowed in previews
.
Pages published after August 4, 2025 pay a 10% platform fee plus processing (2.9% + $0.30 for a US card). On a $5 membership that is $0.50 plus $0.445, so the creator keeps $4.055 before payout fees and tax. Older pages keep a lower legacy rate only as long as the page is never unpublished, by the creator or by Patreon for any reason
, which is a real risk for an adult page that gets suspended. Adult/18+ creators can also sell posts and collections as one-time purchases.
Payouts can be taken any time once funds clear, or automatically on the 5th: PayPal (1%, minimum payout $10), Payoneer, or US direct deposit at $0.25. Non-US creators file a W-8BEN first. Apple takes 30% of anything bought inside the iOS app and holds those funds for up to 75 days, so adult creators do better sending fans to the website. Patreon Video is not available to Adult/18+ pages.
The theme bans match SubscribeStar's in spirit: incest (step relations included), non-consent including hypnosis and drugging, and drawn subjects who are not unmistakably interpreted to be adults
, judged on the body, the title, description and tags, and the setting.
itch.io
Best for selling finished books
- Price
- Free
- Type
- open indie marketplace with an NSFW comics section
- Formats
- western comics, doujinshi, 3D comics
- Free reading
- Yes
itch.io is an open marketplace where an artist uploads a comic, sets a price (or pay-what-you-want) and sells it as a DRM-free download. Its creator FAQ says Fictional, illustrated, and rendered content is generally fine, assuming it's legal.
The creator chooses what share itch.io keeps, 10% by default; itch.io's own example nets $8.41 from a $10 sale after its cut and PayPal's $0.30 + 2.9%. Payouts go straight to the creator's PayPal, or itch.io collects the money and pays it out by PayPal or Payoneer once $5 has built up, after a review of 7 to 14 days.
The weak point is the payment side. On July 24, 2025 itch.io pulled every adult NSFW page out of browse and search after pressure on its payment processors, suspended Stripe for 18+ pages, and brought free adult pages back a week later. Paid adult comics are listed in browse, but itch.io has not posted a dated announcement saying they are back. Adult pages are also blocked for UK visitors under the Online Safety Act. Paid work must avoid a list of themes itch.io says the card networks will not process, from non-consent and incest to Underage or "barely legal" themes
. The story of the delisting is in our news piece on itch.io.
pixivFANBOX
Best for Japanese audiences
- Price
- Free
- Type
- creator subscription platform (monthly fan plans)
- Formats
- manga
- Free reading
- Yes
pixivFANBOX is pixiv's monthly fan-plan service, and it is where many pixiv artists send fans for supporter-only work. Creators set plans from 100 to 10,000 JPY a month; pixiv says the average pledge is about 500 JPY. With the R-18 setting on, FANBOX keeps 12.9% of each pledge (10% on all-ages pages), so a 1,000 JPY pledge leaves 871 JPY. FANBOX raised the R-18 rate from 10% on September 1, 2025 and said in writing that card companies and payment processors were the reason.
Payouts go to a Japanese bank account or PayPal only. Payoneer and Wise are refused, and FANBOX tells non-Japanese creators to use PayPal, which carries no transfer fee. The automatic payout runs around the 20th and skips months under 5,000 JPY. Mosaics are mandatory on all sexual work, and AI-generated work is banned.
The bigger risk is moderation. Drawn work whose content, title, tags or captions point at incest, non-consent or the other listed themes is hidden until revised, and around September 25, 2026 creators reported suspensions of posts three or four years old, triggered by tags such as hypnosis and kidnapping (see the FANBOX suspensions).
Fantia
Best for Japanese downloads and goods
- Price
- Free
- Type
- creator support platform (fan club plans, digital and physical goods, commissions)
- Formats
- manga, doujinshi
- Free reading
- Yes
Fantia, run by Toranoana, sells more than plans. One fan club page can carry monthly plans (100 to 100,000 JPY), back issues, downloads, physical goods, commissions and tips. The fee for drawn categories is 12.5% (17.5% for live action), raised from 10% on December 1, 2025, and fans pay no extra fee on illustration and manga plans. A 1,000 JPY plan leaves 875 JPY before the 330 JPY bank fee per claim.
Every creator passes an eKYC photo-ID check, overseas residents included. The hard limit for foreign artists is the payout: overseas bank or PayPal transfers are open only to permanent overseas residents whose sales have reached 50,000 JPY. Fans also have fewer ways to pay since Visa and Mastercard were suspended on May 21, 2024; cards are limited to JCB and American Express. Genitals must be covered by thick multi-line bars or an opaque mosaic that stays unrecognizable at thumbnail size, and AI-generated data is banned from paid content.
Ci-en
Best for crowdfunding a doujin project
- Price
- Free
- Type
- creator support platform (monthly plans, crowdfunding, one-off articles) run by DLsite's operator
- Formats
- manga, doujinshi
- Free reading
- Yes
Ci-en is the fan-support site run by EISYS, the operator of DLsite, with its R-18 side on ci-en.dlsite.com. It takes 13% of R-18 plan income, 15% of R-18 crowdfunding and 15% of one-off articles, and it pays the domestic bank fee itself. Each sales type has to reach 5,000 JPY on its own before a bank payout. Creators outside Japan without a Japanese account are paid by PayPal in JPY and bear the fees.
Two limits make Ci-en a narrow choice. Fans can pay by card only with JCB, and the site's daily ranking is almost all progress diaries for doujin games, so a comic artist would be writing for a game-heavy crowd. Its compliance policy has the plainest under-18 rule of the Japanese platforms: it bans wording and props that suggest a character under 18.
Affect3D Store
Best for 3D adult studio sales
- Price
- Free
- Type
- 3D adult comics and animation store
- Formats
- 3D comics, animations, games
- Free reading
- Yes
Affect3D runs a download store for 3D adult comics, animations and games, and artists apply by email with samples. The commission table pays the artist 60% of each sale as a Regular or Featured vendor and 70% as an Exclusive one. Each product goes through a staff content review before it is published, and real performers are banned. The public page does not give payout methods, minimums or schedules; those are in a PDF version of the seller terms. For the reader side, see 3D porn comics.
Skeb
Best for one-off commissions
- Price
- Price not confirmed
- Type
- commission request platform (one-shot paid requests to Japanese creators)
- Formats
- manga
- Free reading
- Not confirmed
Skeb is a Japanese commission site with a deliberately rigid model: the client names an amount and writes the request, the artist accepts or ignores it, and there is no messaging and no retakes. "Comic" is one of the request genres. The artist pays up to 9.8% per request, cut to 6.8% with two conditions met, and clients pay nothing on top; at Skeb's stated average of 12,000 JPY an artwork, the artist keeps 10,824 JPY at the top rate. NSFW requests are allowed when flagged and censored under Japanese law. For anyone abroad the problem is payout: withdrawals go only to a Japanese bank account (458 JPY each) or Kyash.
pixiv
Best free place to post R-18 work
- Price
- Free tier · $4.15/mo
- Type
- illustration, manga and novel posting community
- Formats
- manga
- Free reading
- Yes
pixiv is free to post on, R-18 included, and most Japanese hentai and doujin artists post there first before linking out to a paid page. The R-18 restriction has to be set on the work, because a tag alone does nothing, and censoring must sit on the same layer as the art. Its own paid feature is Requests (commissions from 3,000 JPY, 10% fee, payout to a Japanese bank or PayPal). Accounts set to the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia or New Zealand fall under extra regional rules that ban simulated under-18 sexual content, incest and non-consent, and pixiv may hide such works in those regions.
Newgrounds
Best for free webcomic reach
- Price
- Free
- Type
- artist community portal with an art section
- Formats
- western comics, pin-ups, animation, games
- Free reading
- Yes
Newgrounds lets any member post art and comics, with an A rating for Nudity, sex
and fetish content. Artists who regularly post adult work without the A rating risk being de-scouted, and a character who looks under 18 is treated that way whatever the comments claim. AI-generated art and most Daz3D renders are banned. We found no payment program for artists, so Newgrounds works as a free front door that points readers to a paid page elsewhere.
Publishers that pay artists for erotic comics
Self-publishing is not the only route. A few western erotic comics publishers buy or commission work and pay the artist, though none of them publishes rates. Iron Circus Comics, which sells erotic graphic novels and the Smut Peddler anthologies, has a submissions page for book pitches. Slipshine says it pays its artists a fair market value for their work
and announces open submissions on its home page and social media when it has them. Filthy Figments lists its published creators but no submission terms. These suit an artist with a finished pitch who wants an editor and a paying archive more than a fan page.
Platforms that do not take explicit comics
Several platforms adult artists search for will remove explicit comics, and some of them used to allow them.
- Gumroad names
Adult comics with nudity or sexual acts
as not allowed, citing Stripe and PayPal; it tightened the rule in March 2024 (background here). Flagged sellers still get their balance paid out. - Ko-fi bans pornography
including implied, emulated, censored, and cropped versions across illustrative, video, audio content
, and it also bans using a censored preview to sell the uncensored version somewhere else. Lightly sensual nudity is allowed under its NSFW tag. - GlobalComix says explicitly sexual stories
(such as Hentai)
are not accepted, though nudity outside sex scenes is. It pays creators a share of Gold subscription revenue by pages read. - WEBTOON Canvas bans nudity and content
intended to be sexually gratifying
even on series rated Mature. It pays through Super Likes and ad revenue sharing, with a $25 PayPal minimum since January 2026, so it fits a suggestive or mature series that stays clothed. - Tapas bans content intended for sexual gratification, and its Mature section takes no submissions. Tapas also closes on March 31, 2027, so it is not a place to start a series now (details).
DeviantArt sits in between. Mature work must be tagged, and its Core plans lower the monetization fee to between 2.5% and 15% depending on tier, but we could not read its help article on where explicit work is allowed, so we do not rank it.

The money side in more depth: creator platform fees works through the arithmetic per platform, payout methods covers which countries each one can pay, and subscriptions vs pay per chapter compares the two ways of charging.
What payment processors actually decide
Read the adult rules of any platform on this list and you find the same sentence in different words: the card companies made us do it. Patreon's ID check exists because Payment processors like Mastercard and Visa require Patreon to have all creators sharing sexually explicit creations or creations that include nudity verify that they are over the age of 18
. SubscribeStar's March 2026 rewrite cites legal requirements, payment processors, and acquiring bank standards
. Gumroad cites Stripe and PayPal, and Ko-fi tells creators they cannot use it against PayPal's acceptable use policy or Stripe's prohibited businesses terms
.
Stripe's own list of prohibited businesses, updated September 22, 2026, includes Pornography and other mature audience content (including literature, imagery and other media) designed for the purpose of sexual gratification
. Any platform that runs explicit sales through Stripe is outside that line. itch.io switched Stripe off for 18+ pages in July 2025 for this reason, and Gumroad, which names Stripe and PayPal as its processing partners, stopped selling adult comics.
For an adult comic artist the processors decide three things. First, which themes can be sold. The lists line up closely. pixiv's 2022 terms, written around the card networks' brand-protection rules, name sexual exploitation of a minor, incest, bestiality, non-consent and non-consensual mutilation. itch.io's list of themes it is unable to support the sale of
adds pseudo-incest and voyeur content. Patreon and SubscribeStar ban incest, non-consent (hypnosis and drugging named) and anything that reads as under 18, in drawn work as much as in photos. A comic can be legal, fictional and clearly about adults and still be unsellable on all of them because of its premise.
Second, whether the platform keeps its card brands. Fantia lost Visa and Mastercard on May 21, 2024, and DLsite lost them on April 3, 2024; Ci-en takes only JCB cards. FANBOX warned on August 27, 2026 that public posts breaking its rules could get its main payment methods
stopped, and the suspensions came a month later. When a platform loses a card brand, every creator on it loses the fans who only have that card (more in the Japanese card cutoffs).
Third, how much the platform charges. FANBOX's 2.9-point increase on R-18 pages was explained as rising review costs demanded by card companies and payment processors.
Mastercard's public position is that it allows all lawful purchases
and requires merchants to block unlawful ones; its 2021 rules for adult merchants require documented age and consent for the people depicted, which matters most for photos and video of real people. The platforms read the same rules more strictly for drawn work, and the creator has no appeal to the card network. A practical habit follows from this: write titles, tags and descriptions as if a processor's reviewer will read them, because on FANBOX and Patreon the metadata is judged along with the art. The full rule-by-rule list is on adult content rules for creators.

Picking by the kind of comic you make
An ongoing English-language porn comic released page by page fits SubscribeStar or Patreon. Choose SubscribeStar if the site's purpose matters to you and you can wait for bank payouts; choose Patreon if you want PayPal payouts and one-off sales next to memberships, and can keep every public preview clean. A second page on the other platform is a sensible fallback in case one of them suspends you.
A finished book, a one-shot or a collected volume sells best as a file: itch.io for drawn work, Affect3D if it is 3D and you would rather a studio store handled the selling.
A hentai artist drawing for Japanese readers will want pixiv for exposure and FANBOX or Fantia for income, with mosaics on everything. If you live outside Japan, check the payout rules first, since Fantia and Skeb exclude most foreign residents. Our page on platforms for hentai artists covers that side in full.
A webtoon with sexual themes but no explicit panels can grow an audience on WEBTOON Canvas under a Mature rating; explicit webtoons need one of the paid platforms above, as covered in platforms for NSFW webtoon creators. For the full route from first page to first payout, see how to publish adult comics, and for the income side, how to make money drawing NSFW comics. All creator pages are listed on the creators hub.
FAQ
Can you post porn comics on Patreon?
Yes, on a page marked Adult/18+, behind the paywall, after an ID and selfie check. Patreon permits sexual work between non-real subjects in illustrated and animated form. It bans incest (step relations included), non-consent including hypnosis and drugging, and drawn subjects who do not read unmistakably as adults. Public previews, banners and free posts must contain no nudity.
Which creator platform takes the smallest cut?
Among platforms that allow explicit comics, Skeb's commission fee runs from 9.8% down to 6.8%, and itch.io lets the creator choose its share (10% by default). Patreon and SubscribeStar take 10% plus processing, Fantia 12.5% on drawn work, FANBOX 12.9% on R-18 pages and Ci-en 13% on R-18 plans. Ko-fi takes 0% on one-off tips but does not allow explicit work.
Does Gumroad still allow adult comics?
No. Its help article lists Adult comics with nudity or sexual acts
as not allowed, in line with Stripe's and PayPal's policies. Only a narrow lane remains for pin-up and cosplay-type work flagged as adults-only.
Can I use Ko-fi for NSFW art?
Only for lightly sensual work under the NSFW tag. Ko-fi bans pornography in illustrated form, including censored and cropped versions, and bans using censored previews to sell uncensored work on another site.
Can artists outside Japan get paid on FANBOX or Fantia?
On FANBOX, yes: payouts go to a Japanese bank or PayPal, and FANBOX tells non-Japanese creators to use PayPal. Fantia pays overseas only to permanent overseas residents whose sales reach 50,000 JPY. Skeb pays only to Japanese bank accounts or Kyash.
Can I publish adult comics on WEBTOON Canvas or Tapas?
Not explicit ones. WEBTOON Canvas bans nudity and sexually gratifying content even at its Mature rating. Tapas bans content intended for sexual gratification, its Mature section takes no submissions, and the service closes on March 31, 2027.
