Best platforms for NSFW webtoon creators

Patreon and SubscribeStar are the two platforms where a creator can publish explicit vertical episodes behind a paywall and be paid by fans. Manta, Lezhin and TOPTOON Plus buy mature series by pitch, WEBTOON CANVAS accepts a Mature rating but no nudity, and Toomics, Tappytoon and Honeytoon do not take submissions. Tapas is closing on March 31, 2027.

In short

  • Explicit vertical comics can be sold on Patreon (Adult/18+ pages, 10% fee plus processing) and SubscribeStar (10% plus processing, ID screening before you publish).
  • Manta takes mature submissions and opens an independent creator section on November 16, 2026; Lezhin and TOPTOON Plus take pitches by email or form.
  • WEBTOON CANVAS has a Mature (18+) rating, but nudity and sexually gratifying content are banned and even mosaic censoring is not allowed.
  • Tapas, GlobalComix and Ko-fi refuse explicit comics; Toomics, Tappytoon and Honeytoon take no open submissions.

A webtoon creator who wants to draw explicit work has fewer doors than a creator of page-based comics, because the Korean-style services that publish the format are licensed stores, not open platforms. The ones with open publishing either ban explicit work or are shutting down. What is left is the usual set of membership and storefront sites, which accept explicit drawn comics but have no special reader for a long vertical strip, plus a short list of publishers that choose their series. Creators of page-based or Japanese work should start with the wider list for adult comic creators, and the parent creators section covers fees and rules in general.

Patreon allows sexual work between non-real subjects, meaning drawn, animated or written, on pages categorized Adult/18+. A creator on such a page must pass ID and age verification before using Patreon's features, and explicit posts sit behind the paywall: previews, banners and tier descriptions must be clean, since Nudity and sexually explicit material are never allowed in previews. Patreon Video is not available to Adult/18+ pages, and image previews are blurred.

Pages published after August 4, 2025 pay the standard 10% platform fee plus payment processing, which is 2.9% + $0.30 for a card. On a $5 membership that is $0.50 plus $0.445, leaving $4.055 before payout fees and tax. Older pages kept a lower legacy rate of 5%, 8% or 11%, and an unpublished page loses it, which matters for an adult page that Patreon suspends. A creator can take payouts at any time or on the 5th of the month: PayPal costs 1% (minimum $0.25, capped at $20) with a $10 minimum, and US direct deposit costs $0.25. Non-US creators file a W-8BEN first. Apple takes 30% of purchases made through the iOS app, and those funds are held for up to 75 days.

The research files record no Patreon wording about webtoons or long vertical images, and no exclusivity clause in the terms; test a strip before committing.

SubscribeStar

Best for an audience that expects explicit work

Type
subscription platform for NSFW digital artists (adult site) with a separate SFW site
Formats
western comics, manga, 3D comics

SubscribeStar runs its adult site as a home for NSFW digital artists and says it supports fictional and digitally created content only; real people as the main subject are not permitted. Creators pass KYC and profile screening before publishing, and every post is pre-screened. The prohibited list ties itself to payment processors and card-acquirer standards, so a creator should read it before planning a series.

The fee is 10% plus processing, quoted as anything from 3% + $0.30 to 10% + $0.40, and the creator chooses whether subscribers carry the processing part. Payouts are the slow part. A profile needs $150 in earnings on its balance and five active subscribers (some US creators face a $30 threshold), the minimum request is $50, and profiles with fewer than five active subscribers can face a risk period of up to 90 days. Payment is by bank transfer (ACH, wire or SWIFT), and tax forms (W-9, W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E) come first.

Manta

Best open door among the Korean-style services

Price
Free tier · $4.99/mo
Type
licensed webtoon store
Formats
webtoons, manhwa, manga
Free reading
Yes

Manta is the one webtoon store in our files that says outright it accepts mature work. Its apply page says it is currently accepting webcomic submissions in all genres, including both all-ages and mature content, and that submitters must be 18 or older. Contracted series are paid through a Hybrid model (subscription engagement plus episode purchases) or pay-per-episode only. No revenue share, fee or payout rule is published.

A second route opens on November 16, 2026: an independent creator section where a creator uploads episodes in a studio and publishes right away. Manta says earning comes down the road, so the first months are a free-publishing arrangement with no stated income. The apply page does not say how explicit a mature series may be, and its 18+ editions open only on its website, not in its store apps. A creator writing explicit work should ask before pitching.

Doujinshi

itch.io

Best for selling a finished series as a download

Price

Type
open indie marketplace with an NSFW comics section
Formats
western comics, doujinshi, 3D comics
Free reading
Yes

itch.io lets anyone upload and sell a comic as a download. Its creator FAQ says Fictional, illustrated, and rendered content is generally fine, assuming it's legal. The creator picks the share itch.io keeps, 10% by default, and PayPal charges $0.30 + 2.9% a transaction on top. Money goes to the creator's PayPal or Stripe directly, or itch.io collects it and pays out by PayPal or Payoneer once $5 has built up.

A webtoon is a chapter-by-chapter format and itch.io is a one-off purchase, so the fit is a collected volume or a season bundle, not a weekly release. The weak point is the payment side. After the July 2025 delisting, itch.io asked every NSFW page owner to complete content warnings, and Stripe will not support content designed for sexual gratification, so paid adult work depends on the processors that remain. Paid NSFW comics are listed in browse (903 results on the top-selling page), though no dated itch.io post says they are back.

Best publisher to pitch for R-rated series

Lezhin sells R-rated titles on its website and takes no self-publishing. Creators send a pitch to its submissions address with Over 4 completed episodes and a description with genre, synopsis and character bios. Contract terms, revenue share and payout rules are not published, and nothing in the files says how Lezhin treats explicit submissions beyond the fact that it sells R-rated editions on the web.

A signed creator should know that readers see the adult edition only on the web or in Lezhin's Android APK; the iPhone and Play builds carry no R-rated titles (see adult webtoon apps).

TOPTOON Plus is now served from global.toptoon.com and charges readers through a membership. Creators download a Series Application form, attach at least three sample episodes and send both to customer support. There is no self-publishing, and its payout terms are not public. Its NSFW mode and a statement that the site contains sexually oriented material show that adult series are in scope; no file says which kinds of explicit work it licenses.

WEBTOON

Best free audience, for work that stays clothed

Price
Free tier · $3.99/mo
Type
webtoon platform (all-ages and mature-rated, no explicit content)
Formats
webtoons, western comics
Free reading
Yes

WEBTOON CANVAS is open to all and has a four-step age rating set by an upload questionnaire; Mature means readers 18 or older. The rating does not unlock nudity. The content guidelines say While sexual themes and discussions are allowed, we do not allow nudity or content that is solely intended to be sexually gratifying, and Box and mosaic censoring are not allowed. A romance or sexual-tension series with no nudity fits; an explicit one does not.

The money is real but depends on size. Creators earn 50% of ad revenue on their series once they reach 1,000 subscribers and 40,000 global monthly page views for Viewer Ads, or 100,000 monthly views for Reward Ads. Super Like needs 500 Likes and pays 70% of net revenue, where net is gross minus a 30% deduction for app and in-app fees, about 49% of gross. Payouts through PayPal start at $25; a Patreon ID raises the minimum to $100. WEBTOON does not say whether Mature-rated series can join the ad or Super Like programs.

Where explicit webtoons are refused or not accepted

Tapas accepts self-published series but not explicit ones. Its guidelines allow non-sexual nudity and censored sexual acts on web only, and anything intended for sexual gratification is banned. The Mature section holds explicit Premium stories, and it is not open for submissions. Creators there earn from ads (about 70% of ad revenue once a series reaches 100 subscribers) and from reader Support, with a $25 PayPal minimum. Kakao Entertainment ends the service on March 31, 2027; creators may keep publishing until then, and our news item on the Tapas closure has the dates.

GlobalComix is open to self-publishing and splits Gold subscription revenue by pages read, with the platform keeping 25 to 35%; the minimum payout is US $30 and income pends for 14 days. Explicit stories are out: explicitly sexual stories (such as Hentai) which are not accepted on GlobalComix. Ko-fi bans pornography and sexualised nudity across illustrative work, censored versions included, and bans offering uncensored versions elsewhere that link back to a Ko-fi page. It works for safe-for-work comics only.

Toomics replies to submissions that due to the restructure of our submission process, we unfortunately won't be able to accept your submission. Tappytoon has no open submissions and reviews inquiries from time to time. Honeytoon says it is not a user-generated platform and takes only story ideas. Lalatoon says its titles come from artists under direct contract and shows no submission page. WebComics and MangaToon accept contributions but reserve the right to remove pornographic or obscene work.

Choosing between them

Two questions settle most cases. Is the work explicit? Then Patreon, SubscribeStar and itch.io are the self-run routes, and the Korean-style publishers are an uncertain pitch. Sexual themes without nudity fit CANVAS, which has the largest free audience here and the only published ad and tip numbers. The other question is who brings the readers. Membership sites pay from fans you bring; a store such as Manta or Lezhin may bring its own, on terms it has not published.

Fees and payouts are compared across more platforms in creator platform fees and creator payout methods, and the rules that cause suspensions are in adult content rules. For more places to post beyond webtoons, see where to publish adult comics, and for readers' side of the same services, NSFW webtoon sites.

FAQ

You can mark a series Mature, which hides it from readers under 18, but nudity and content meant to be sexually gratifying are banned, and mosaic censoring is not allowed either.

Does Toomics accept submissions?

No. Its help page says the restructured submission process means it cannot accept them.

Can I post explicit webtoons on Tapas?

No. The Mature section is not open for submissions, community uploads may show censored sexual acts on web only, and the service closes on March 31, 2027.

Does Manta accept mature webcomics?

Its apply page says it accepts submissions including mature content from creators aged 18 and up. An independent section opens on November 16, 2026.
