In short

  • WebComics sells licensed Chinese manhua and Korean manhwa in English, unlocked chapter by chapter with Gems.
  • It has no adult or 18+ section on the app or the website. The terms reserve the right to remove pornography, obscenity, and the App Store lists the app at 13+.
  • Gems cost about 10 cents each at every pack size. How many Gems a chapter costs is shown only in the app.
  • Premium costs $5.99 a month, but WebComics does not say what it includes.

What WebComics is

WebComics is a comics app with a web reader at webcomicsapp.com, run by Webcomics Holdings HK Limited. The iPhone app first appeared in January 2018. Most of the catalog is Chinese manhua in vertical scroll, with Korean manhwa alongside and an Originals shelf of comics submitted by creators. Title pages credit the source studio or platform, for example "Rumenghuashe, BILIBILI COMICS".

It is licensed. The store text says All content on WebComics is serviced in official partnership with the respective publishers, creators and artists., and creator uploads must be the uploader's own work. WebComics publishes no title count; the store blurb claims "over 5 million reads", which is readership, not catalog size. It sits with the mainstream apps in our platform reviews.

Who WebComics suits

Readers of romance, BL and GL manhua who want a free-to-start app with daily giveaways and accept that explicit content is not part of the deal. Readers who arrived here searching for adult webtoons should know up front that WebComics is a mainstream app. Its romance can be steamy in theme; its pages are not explicit.

Does WebComics have adult content?

No adult section, no 18+ toggle and no explicit catalog. The terms keep the right to remove content such as, but not limited to, pornography, obscenity. The App Store lists the app at 13+, with advisories for "Infrequent/Mild Sexual Content and Nudity" and "Infrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes"; Google Play rates it 13+ too. The terms set the minimum age at 13.

What WebComics does have is a large romance shelf. The genre tabs are Action, BL, Comedy, Drama, Eastern Fantasy, Eastern Romance, Fantasy, GL, Horror, LGBTQ+, Mystery, Romance, Sci-Fi and Slice of Life. A separate list of about 120 tags includes CEO, Contract marriage, Forbidden Love, ABO, Age gap and Office, which is the vocabulary of mainstream romance manhua.

One gap to know about. The web Originals shelf carries creator titles marketed with "mature themes", and no page checked asked for an age: not the home page, not the genre pages, not a mature-themed Originals title. The Originals are creator work under the same terms, and no explicit catalog sits behind them. For licensed explicit webtoons, see where adult manhwa is sold.

What is free on WebComics

Early chapters of a series open on the website without an account. The rest is in the app: The complete comic can only be read in WebComics app. In the app, WebComics advertises "Daily Free Reading Privileges" and giveaway events (Come back each day for our newest free manhwa, webtoon & manga giveaway events!), and title pages promise free Gems for installing it. WebComics does not publish how far the free reads go on a given series, or whether it runs a wait-for-free timer. The free options across apps are compared on free NSFW comics apps.

WebComics Gems and what a chapter costs

Gems unlock chapters. They are sold through the app stores, and the US App Store list shows these packs, plus the subscriptions:

Source: apps.apple.com. Prices change with region, promotions and the store you buy through.

The Gem packs scale in a straight line: 10 Gems for $0.99, 100 for $9.99, 1,000 for $99.99. That is roughly 10 cents a Gem at every size, with no bulk bonus on the list. Buying big saves nothing.

The cost of a chapter in Gems is not on any public page; it appears in the app before you unlock. So a dollar figure per chapter cannot be worked out from WebComics' own numbers. A reader can check it in seconds on the first locked chapter, and multiply by 10 cents. How this pricing model compares with subscriptions is on pay-per-chapter comic platforms.

Refunds: the terms say the virtual currency is not redeemable for any sum of money. If content you paid for is removed within 7 days of purchase, support will work with you to exchange your unlocked, unread episodes for WebComics Coins.

WebComics app listing on the App Store with in-app purchases

WebComics Premium and PLUS

The App Store description lists two subscriptions. Premium is $5.99 a month, $17.99 a quarter or $69.99 a year. PLUS is $599.99 a year, and its monthly price is listed twice with two numbers: $69.99 in the description and "Monthly PLUS Membership $199.99" in the in-app purchase list.

Neither the store page nor the website says what either plan includes. Paying $5.99 a month for benefits WebComics does not describe in public is a leap of faith; at the very least, open the subscription screen in the app and read it before tapping.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off no later than 24 hours before the current subscription period expires. Turn it off in your App Store account settings. The store text adds that No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during an active subscription period: switching off renewal stops the next charge, and the current period runs out. Our comic subscription cancellation guide has the store routes.

WebComics on iPhone, Android and the web

  • iPhoneYesWebComics - Webtoon, Manga, updated 2026-10-26.
  • AndroidYesGoogle Play, 10,000,000+ downloads, updated Oct 15, 2026.
  • BrowserYesWeb reader at webcomicsapp.com; full series only in the app.

The app is where the full series, the Gems and the free daily reads are. It also has free downloads for offline reading (Download your preferred stories at no cost and enjoy them offline), kept inside the app. Google Play marks it "Contains ads" and lists more than 10 million downloads. The website is a sampler: early chapters, the genre and tag menus and a library of subscribed titles.

Privacy and billing

Google Play's Data safety section says the app shares device or other IDs for advertising or marketing, and app info and performance data; data is encrypted in transit and deletion can be requested. Purchases go through Apple or Google, so WebComics has no card descriptor of its own to report. Whether the app can clear reading history is not documented.

Publishing on WebComics

WebComics takes creator work. The "Publish" link opens a Contribution Studio login that promises "Generous remuneration", and the FAQ gives a contact address for contributors and one rule: all of your comics must be created by yourself or your team. The terms say creators may be compensated for Content published using one or more of our platforms; the actual terms sit behind the studio login. WebComics publishes no adult-content guideline for creators beyond the pornography clause, so explicit work does not belong here. Artists with adult work should start at platforms for NSFW webtoon artists.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Licensed catalog, with the source studio credited on title pages.

  • No adult content; the terms allow removal of pornography.
  • Full series only in the app; the website shows early chapters.
  • Gems per chapter are not shown publicly.
  • Subscription benefits unpublished, and PLUS has two different monthly prices.
  • No age check, even on mature-themed creator titles.

Alternatives to WebComics

For the same BL and GL shelves with an adult catalog behind them, Lezhin is the licensed choice: its BL and GL lists have their own genre tabs, episode prices are tagged on each title, and its R-rated titles are on the website and in an Android APK. Lalatoon is a pay-per-episode BL, GL and romance store with a flat 3 clovers per paid episode and an 18+ mode behind an account. If you want WebComics' kind of mainstream reading with a stronger free tier, WEBTOON's Originals are free on a weekly schedule, and INKR mixes manhua, manga and webtoons with an ad-supported free tier. Final verdict

Verdict

WebComics is a decent licensed manhua app for romance, BL and GL readers who like daily free reads and offline downloads. It is not an adult platform and never claims to be. The weak spots are money ones: Gems at a flat 10 cents with chapter prices hidden until you are in the app, and subscriptions sold without a public list of what they include.
