How to read manga offline

"Offline" means two different things in manga, and the difference matters when a service closes. A file you downloaded is yours to open in any reader. An in-app download is a temporary copy that the app can expire, and it disappears with the account or the service. The steps below start with files. The other guides cover reading on a phone and paying.

Buy the file: downloads you keep

Irodori Comics is the plainest case: All our digital doujinshi works are DRM-free and can be downloaded for you to keep. The files will be available in high-quality PDF format at 3200 pixels height. You download from the product page or My Account, Downloads.

FAKKU's book editions come in x2600 and x3200 vertical resolution, and can be downloaded as PDFs or as zip archives with image files. FAKKU's page does not mention DRM either way. It also does not say whether chapters you read through the Unlimited subscription can be saved, so count on offline access only for books you buy. Note the refund rule: FAKKU refunds digital titles within 3 days only if they haven't been downloaded.

Western erotic comics work the same way. Iron Circus sells every erotic book as a DRM-free PDF delivered by email, itch.io lets artists upload files that buyers download exactly as you uploaded them, and Affect3D delivers 3D comics as zip archives of PNG, JPG or PDF files. GlobalComix sells PDFs of some releases. BookWalker is the odd one: its downloads are LCP files that open only in apps such as Thorium Reader or FBReader, and its support page says offline reading in its own app is still coming.

Download inside the app

INKR puts it this way: Members can download any chapters they can access to read offline using the app. That is the plan to pick if you want a manga, manhua and webtoon app that works on a plane. Manta made downloads free for everyone: The Download feature is now available to all users, regardless of Membership status.

Tapas is the warning case. Its downloads were always removed after 30 days due to copyright restrictions, and when the service ends on 2027-03-31, unlocked episodes become inaccessible. Our Tapas shutdown report has the dates.

Where offline reading is not offered

MangaPlaza is clear about it: users may not read the content available on MangaPlaza offline, and it calls itself a streaming service. Toomics says it does not have a feature that allows our users to download our comics or view them offline. Honeytoon's FAQ: Currently, our website does not support offline mode. Kirtu's current site says PDF download is not available. If offline reading matters to you, these are the services to skip.

Open your files in a reader app

A file is only as good as the app that opens it. On Android, Perfect Viewer is free, carries no ads label, declares no data collection, and opens CBZ, CBR, 7Z, images and EPUB, with PDF through a plugin. CDisplayEx Lite is free with ads; Premium ($5.99) adds Komga and Kavita access. On iPhone and iPad, Panels is free for importing and reading, and YACReader costs $4.99. If your collection is large, a self-hosted server such as Komga serves it to Panels, which can download full series for offline reading, or to Mihon through Komga's own extension. Mihon's local source, step by step

Mihon is a free, open-source Android reader that hosts zero content. Its local source reads folders of images and ZIP/CBZ, RAR/CBR or EPUB archives you already have, which makes it a good offline reader for files bought from the stores above. Mihon says to expect better performance with folders and ZIP/CBZ. It installs as an APK from mihon.app or GitHub and needs Android 8.0 or higher.

1. Install Mihon from mihon.app or its GitHub releases page and note the storage location it uses.
2. In that location, open the local folder (for example /Mihon/local/).
3. Create one folder per series inside it.
4. Put each chapter inside the series folder, as its own folder of images or as a single CBZ or ZIP file.
5. Add an empty file named .nomedia, which Mihon's docs recommend so the pages do not show up in your photo gallery.
6. Open the local source in Mihon. Your series are listed there and read with no connection.

We cover only the local source and Komga. Mihon itself warns that third-party extensions will have full access to the app and may contain malware, and most of them point at unlicensed sites. For privacy, Mihon has an app lock, a secure screen that blocks screenshots, and an incognito mode that pauses reading history.
