Perfect Viewer: the free Android reader and Perfect Viewer X

What Perfect Viewer is

Perfect Viewer is a file reader. It has no catalog and no store: you point it at a folder of comics, a network share or a cloud drive, and it displays what is there. Rookie Studio makes it, and the name now covers two products.

The classic Perfect Viewer is the Android app most people mean. It has more than 5 million installs on Google Play and was last updated on March 12, 2026. Perfect Viewer X is the cross-platform rewrite, first released on the App Store on June 24, 2026 and updated on October 31, 2026, with builds for Android, iPhone, iPad, Mac and Windows.

For adult comics the appeal is simple. If you bought DRM-free files, the store's own reader is optional, and Perfect Viewer reads them without an account, a sign-in or a connection to anyone's server.

Where to get it, and the age ratings

Both Android apps are on Google Play, rated Everyone. Perfect Viewer X on the App Store is rated 4+ and runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac; Rookie Studio's site lists a Microsoft Store build for Windows as well, but its Windows price is not confirmed. The classic app has no iPhone version.

The store ratings say nothing about what you will open in the app, because the app ships with nothing. Rookie Studio's privacy policy states that the app is not intended for children under the age of 13.

What Perfect Viewer reads

The classic app's Play listing names CBZ/ZIP, CBR/RAR, 7Z/CB7, LZH and CBT/TAR archives, the usual image formats (JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, WebP, TIFF), and EPUB, HTML and TXT. PDF, XPS and DjVu open after install the PDF plugin, which is a second app from the same developer.

Perfect Viewer X adds newer formats out of the box: AVIF, HEIF and JXL images, MOBI, AZW and FB2 e-books, and PDF and DjVu without a plugin.

Which purchases it opens

Anything DRM-free. These are the licensed stores we cover that sell adult comics as files you keep:

• FAKKU's book digital editions download as PDFs or as ZIP archives of images, at 2600 or 3200 pixels tall.
• Irodori Comics sells its doujinshi as DRM-free PDFs at 3200 pixels tall. On the classic app, install the PDF plugin first.
• Iron Circus Comics sells DRM-free PDFs of its erotic graphic novels next to the print editions.
• Affect3D Store packs most products into ZIP files, with comics as PNG, JPG or PDF.
• itch.io delivers files exactly as the creator uploaded them.
• Patreon creators with Adult/18+ pages can attach files to posts, such as PDFs or ZIPs.

Gumroad is no longer a source for these files. Its help center now lists Adult comics with nudity or sexual acts among the things it does not allow for sale, which our Gumroad news page covers.

Reading modes

The Play listing describes three viewer modes: Page mode, Vertical scroll mode (PDF viewer, webtoon like) and Horizontal scroll mode. Right-to-left reading is supported for manga, and the vertical mode handles long-strip files the way a webtoon app would. There is a simple bookmark function in both versions.

Offline reading, network shares and cloud drives

Files on the phone read offline with no setup. The classic app can also open files over CIFS/Samba, FTP, SFTP, FTPS and OPDS. OPDS is the catalog feed that self-hosted servers such as Komga and Kavita publish, so a home library can feed Perfect Viewer directly. Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox and Box work too, but on the classic app cloud drives need another plugin. Perfect Viewer X adds WebDAV.

Nothing is downloaded from a store, because there is no store. Our page on offline reading on adult comics platforms compares this with the platforms whose own apps keep downloads locked inside.

Privacy

By its own declarations Perfect Viewer collects nothing, and it locks nothing either. The Data safety section for both Android apps says No data collected and No data shared with third parties, and the App Store privacy card for Perfect Viewer X says "Data Not Collected". The X privacy policy, last updated December 2, 2025, says settings, bookmarks and reading history are stored locally on your device and that the app does not automatically collect any personal information, analytics data, or usage statistics.

What it lacks is a lock. Neither listing nor the official site mentions a passcode, an app lock or a hidden folder. Perfect Viewer X did add Clear all history and bookmarks in a release note. If you need a password on the app itself, Panels on Apple devices and Mihon on Android both have one; our private library page lists the others.

Price

The classic app is free. One feature is reserved for donors: turning black-and-white pages into four-color images, which the listing marks Only available for donated users. Donation is done by buying a separate donation app.

Perfect Viewer or Perfect Viewer X?

On Android the free classic app is the safer first install. Its Play rating is 4.3 against 2.4 for Perfect Viewer X, and long-time users in the X reviews complain about missing settings, folder handling and lag. Those are user reports.

X makes sense in two cases: you want PDF without installing a plugin, or your device is an iPhone, iPad or Mac, where the classic app does not exist.

Limits

No lock and no hidden library are documented. PDF and cloud drives on the classic app need plugin apps. X costs money and its early reviews are weak. And like any file reader, it does nothing until you have files, so it is no help for platforms that only stream inside their own apps.

Alternatives to Perfect Viewer

CDisplayEx is the other long-running Android reader, with a free Lite version that shows ads and a $5.99 Premium version that connects to Komga and Kavita. Mihon is free and has an app lock and incognito mode, but installs as an APK and does not list PDF. YACReader suits a big collection on a computer, with paid phone apps that stream from it. On an iPhone, Panels is free to read with and charges for the password lock.

All of them are compared on our apps for adult comics page, and the DRM-free downloads page lists which stores sell files these readers can open.
