In short
- The erotic end of webtoons is romance-led: Romance, BL and GL shelves, with the steamy edition marked [Steamy], [Full ver.] or Mature.
- Ten episodes cost roughly $2.90 to $5 across Lalatoon, Manta, Tappytoon and Lezhin, depending on the pack bought.
- Many of these series have a toned-down all-ages edition, which works as a free sample of the story.
- BL and GL are publishing labels; each service has its own shelf for them.
Tappytoon makes the point most clearly, because it puts a "Steamy" filter on its Discover shelf next to the ordinary genre buttons: Romance, Action, BL, Fantasy, Drama and GL. Steamy marks an edition of a romance or BL title, and the story underneath is the one the all-ages edition tells. That is how most of the erotic side of webtoons works: a long serialized romance, sold in weekly episodes, with an 18+ version for adults. The genre you are shopping for is romance, and the label tells you how far the art goes.
Which shelves to browse
| Service | Shelves that lead to romance and BL/GL | Label for the steamier edition |
|---|---|---|
| Tappytoon | Romance, BL, GL, plus a Steamy filter | [Steamy], [Uncut] |
| Lalatoon | Romance, BL, GL | 18+ toggle (the catalogue behind it was not seen) |
| Manta | Romantasy, Romance, BL, GL | [Full ver.] |
| Lezhin | Romance, GL, BL (the "Genre +" tabs) | R-rated, behind the 18+ switch |
| Tapas | Romance Fantasy, Romance, BL, GL in All Ages; Spicy Romance and BL Hot Picks in Mature | Mature |
| TOPTOON Plus | Vanilla, BL | Behind NSFW mode |
| Toomics | Romance, BL, Drama | Behind Family Safe mode |
| Honeytoon | Romance, Office, In-Law, Cheating | UNCENS+ |
The names matter for finding things. Manta has a Romantasy tab and Tapas a Romance Fantasy one, and Lezhin lists tags such as Romantasy and Omegaverse on a separate Browse by Tag page. TOPTOON Plus lists a "Vanilla" genre beside BL. Honeytoon's menu is the most theme-driven, with Office, In-Law and Cheating beside Romance. For the genre pages themselves, see adult romance webtoons and, for period settings, historical romance manhwa.
BL and GL as publishing labels
BL stands for boys' love and is, per Anime News Network, "the usual term used by the Japanese publishing industry to categorize commercial works focusing on male/male relationships marketed at women". It can cover romance only or content that is graphically sexual. Yaoi is the older and more sexual fan term and, ANN notes, is no longer used as a genre label in Japan. GL, girls' love, is the matching publishing label for stories about women; yuri, per Yuricon, covers any story showing intense emotional connection, romantic love or physical desire between women. The webtoon services use BL and GL as shelf names. Lezhin, Lalatoon, Manta and Tappytoon each run both, and Tapas has a GL tab too.
BL is the larger of the two on the adult side. BL webtoons 18+ and GL webtoons 18+ go through the shelves, the label systems and the services that lean one way or the other. Lalatoon, which is Toomics' sister service, is built around BL, GL and romance, with no subscription: each episode costs clovers. For manga instead of webtoons, MangaPlaza keeps Adult Romance and BL shelves behind a self-declared 18+ toggle on its website, at $6.99 a month for Premium; adult manga covers that side.

Read the all-ages edition first
Because the 18+ edition is usually a second version of the same series, the other edition acts as a sample. Tappytoon sells Steamy and all-ages versions as separate purchases, so a reader who wants the full story in one edition should pick before spending. Tapas does the same with Mature and All Ages, and unlocks do not carry between them. Lezhin shows the pattern logged out: popular mature series appear there as "(Introduction)" and "All-Ages Edition" versions, such as Roses and Champagne, until you log in and turn on the 18+ switch. In each case the free first episodes are the cheapest way to see which edition you want.
Where each service sets the age gate is covered in finding adult webtoons. The short version is that every 18+ edition sits on the website and needs a login and an age confirmation first.
Free ways into a romance series
A long romance is a poor bet on episode one, so the free allowances matter more here than anywhere. Tappytoon opens the first episodes of many titles, gives one Time Till Free episode every 24 hours on marked titles (every 12 hours for Club members) and hands out weekly Free Tickets that open a locked episode for 48 hours. Manta's Free Pass unlocks one episode for 72 hours on 400+ titles and resets every 24 hours, though it may not apply to the newest episodes. Lalatoon gives a Wait Till It's Free coupon 72 hours after you read an episode, and the coupon does not work on the latest 20.
Lezhin shows counts on its rankings, such as "5 Eps free" and "9 Eps free", and puts a WUF label on some titles; its own pages do not explain the timing. TOPTOON Plus makes you log in even for the free episodes. Each of these is a taste. A series you finish will cost money on all of them. Free adult webtoons goes through the free options one by one.

What ten episodes cost
Story-led reading means paying across many episodes, so a per-episode price is less useful than a per-ten-episode one. These use published pack prices and each service's stated episode cost.
| Service | Episode price | Ten episodes, smallest-pack rate | Ten episodes, best pack rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lalatoon | 3 clovers | about $4.79 (25 clovers, $3.99) | about $2.88 (500 clovers, $47.99) |
| Manta | about 40 Gems | about $3.98 ($1.99 for 200 Gems) | about $3.20 ($9.99 for 1,250 Gems) |
| Tappytoon | 300 points | about $4.26 ($1.99 for 1,400 points) | about $3.84 ($4.99 for 3,900 points) |
| Lezhin | 20 coins and up | about $5.00 (400 coins plus 45 bonus, $9.99) | about $4.49 counting the bonus coins |
Manta's Gem figures changed tenfold on March 31, 2026, so older articles quoting 3 to 6 Gems an episode are out of date; its own examples now are 40 and 50. Lezhin's episode price varies by series from 20 coins to over 50, and Tappytoon's 300 points is the figure on the Steamy title we have a price for. Treat all four as examples.
The alternative to paying per episode is a subscription. Manta's Standard membership is $4.99 a month for a library it describes as 300+ series, and Tappytoon Club Standard is $4.99 a month with 4,400 points back, which is about 14 episodes at 300 points. Tapas is not worth starting a library on, since Kakao is closing it on 2027-03-31 and episodes unlocked there become inaccessible. For the cost comparison across all services, adult comics subscription pricing has the full set.

FAQ
What does Steamy mean on Tappytoon?
Steamy marks a censored edition that still carries themes or depictions of adult situations. It opens only for adults who are logged in, have confirmed their age and have switched to mature mode on the website.
Are erotic webtoons the same as NSFW webtoons?
They overlap. "Erotic" points to romance-led stories and "NSFW" to the explicit end, and a Steamy edition can be the first without being the second.
Where can I read BL webtoons 18+?
Tappytoon, Lezhin, Lalatoon, Manta, Tapas, TOPTOON Plus and Toomics all have a BL shelf. The 18+ editions need the website and an account.
Do I need to buy both editions of a series?
On Tappytoon and Tapas, yes: the 18+ and all-ages versions are separate purchases and unlocks do not carry over.
