In short
- Adult webtoons are on the websites of Toomics, Lezhin, TOPTOON Plus, Lalatoon, Tappytoon, Manta, Honeytoon and Tapas, not in their store apps.
- Each site has its own 18+ switch: Family Safe mode, content mode, mature mode, NSFW mode, All Ages, or a birthdate prompt.
- Labels tell you which edition you are looking at: [Steamy] and [Uncut] on Tappytoon, [Full ver.] on Manta, UNCENS+ on Honeytoon.
- WEBTOON has a Mature rating but bans nudity and explicit sex, so it is the wrong place to look.
Adult webtoons are almost all Korean manhwa sold by a handful of licensed services, and the explicit editions are kept off the App Store and Google Play builds. So the first rule is to look on the website. The second is that the website itself starts in a safe mode. Both are covered below, service by service; the rest of our reading and paying guides pick up from there.
Turn on the 18+ mode on each site
| Service | What the switch is called | What it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Toomics | Family Safe mode (on by default) | Confirm you are over 18; it did not switch off logged out |
| Lezhin | 18+ content mode, next to the coin icon | Login first |
| TOPTOON Plus | NSFW mode | Confirm 18+, then an account |
| Lalatoon | All Ages toggle | Account plus "Are you over the age of 18?" |
| Tappytoon | "All-ages" button, then mature mode | Log in and confirm 18+ |
| Manta | [Full ver.] editions on the web | Age entered at sign-up, which cannot be changed later |
| Honeytoon | 18+ question on entry | A click, or a Yoti ID check where local law requires it |
| Tapas | Mature section | Log in and enter a birthdate on the web |
Almost all of these are self-declarations: a button or a typed birthdate. Honeytoon is the exception in some regions, where it switches to Yoti verification "due to local regulations in your region". Toomics asks readers in Singapore, Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia to contact support for a separate age check. Korean services label adult work 19+ at home because Korea's Youth Protection Act defines a juvenile as a person under 19; the English sites use their own checks.
Read the edition labels
Several services sell the same series in two versions, and the labels are the quickest way to tell them apart. Tappytoon is the clearest. Its [Steamy] label marks censored titles that still carry themes or depictions of adult situations
, and [Uncut] marks titles that are unabridged and contain the full work, and may include explicit or adult themes and depictions
. Both are for readers 18 and over, and its Discover shelf has a Steamy filter.
Manta marks the complete 18+ editions [Full ver.]; the app versions are tailored to be more suitable for its age rating
. Lezhin, logged out, shows versions labelled "(Introduction)" or "- All-Ages Edition", which tells you the full version is behind the content-mode switch. Honeytoon puts UNCENS+ badges on series with an uncensored version and keeps them in an Uncensored section, sold on its Ultra plans or for tokens. Tapas keeps its uncut versions in a web-only Mature section whose Spotlight shelves include "Spicy Romance" and "BL Hot Picks"; Mature and all-ages versions are separate series, and a purchase of one does not carry over.
Separate versions mean separate purchases on Tappytoon and Tapas. Check the label before you spend coins.
Browse by genre tab
Once the adult catalog is visible, the genre tabs do the sorting. They differ more than you would expect:
- Toomics: Drama, Romance, BL, Fantasy, Action, Comedy, Horror, Thriller, Historical, Sci-fi, plus a Complete tab.
- Lezhin: Romance, GL, BL, Action, SF/Fantasy and Drama, and a Browse by Tag page with theme tags such as Omegaverse and Romantasy.
- Lalatoon: Romance, BL and GL first, then Fantasy, Drama and the rest, with New and Complete tabs.
- Honeytoon: the 18+ click adds tabs such as In-Law, Cheating, University, MILF and Harem to the general ones.
- Manta: Romantasy, Romance, BL, Fantasy/Sci-Fi, GL, Drama, Thriller.
BL and GL readers have the most choice: Lezhin, Lalatoon, Tappytoon and Manta all run separate BL and GL tabs. The genre pages for BL webtoons 18+ and adult romance webtoons collect them across services.
Sample before paying
Every service gives away the first episodes, and some add timers. Toomics opens the first three chapters, sometimes more. Lalatoon opens episodes 1 to 3 of the series checked and then hands out a Wait Till It's Free coupon 72 hours after you read an episode, not valid on the latest 20 episodes. Tappytoon's Time Till Free opens one episode every 24 hours on marked titles; Manta's Free Pass does the same on 400+ titles. TOPTOON Plus opens its free episodes only after login. How these timers work is explained on wait for free, and the free routes are ranked on free adult webtoons.
Where not to look
WEBTOON comes up first for "adult webtoons", and it does have a Mature rating for readers 18 and over. Its Content Guidelines still ban nudity or content that is solely intended to be sexually gratifying
and graphic sex, on the app and the web alike, so Mature there means sexual themes without explicit scenes. Tapas does sell explicit premium titles, but only until it shuts down on 2027-03-31. What the different ratings mean on each service is on mature content, and the ranked services are on the best adult webtoon platforms. For the term itself, see adult webtoons.
FAQ
Why can't I see 18+ webtoons?
You are probably in the app or in safe mode. Every service checked keeps 18+ editions on its website, and the website starts in a safe mode until you log in and confirm your age.
What does Steamy mean on Tappytoon?
[Steamy] marks censored editions that still carry adult situations; [Uncut] marks unabridged editions that may include explicit depictions. Both need a logged-in, age-confirmed account and open on the website only.
Does WEBTOON have adult content?
It has Mature-rated series for readers 18 and over, but its rules ban nudity and graphic sex everywhere, so there is no explicit content on WEBTOON.
How do I see mature content on Lezhin?
Log in on the website and use the 18+ switch next to the coin icon. On Android, Lezhin's own Lezhin Comics PLUS APK also carries the R-rated titles.
