What historical romance manhwa covers

Our research file defines historical comics as set in a real past period or in a world modelled on one. That second clause matters for manhwa, because many court and palace stories use an invented kingdom built on a real era. A category page therefore tells you the setting, not whether a story is accurate, and not whether it has a love plot. Romance is what readers pair with the setting, and the files record categories, not titles, so we cannot name a specific historical romance series. The one historical title we have documented is western and covered below.

Services with a historical tab and an 18+ mode

TOPTOON Plus is the English website of a Korean adult-webtoon publisher. Its Genres menu has a Historical tab with no separate address, so the link goes to the genres menu. The service is membership only now: coins were discontinued, leftover coins still buy episodes, and the first episodes of a series are free after login. Explicit work sits behind an NSFW switch on the website. The switch page asks "Are you over the age of 18?", and a logged-out Yes left the mode unchanged in the research check, so the switch appears to need an account. No price is in the file. Cancel from profile settings or by email. We found no global app on the US App Store, only a Korean one.

Toomics has a historical ranking. It is sold mainly as a VIP subscription, with coin-only Store titles. The first three chapters of a series are free, sometimes more, and chapters cost 1 to 3 coins. The App Store list shows a 12-month item at $47.99 (about $4 a month), a 6-month item at $29.49 and single months at $8.99 or $9.99. The 18+ series are on the website only; the apps are all-ages builds. To leave Family Safe mode you confirm you are over 18, and in Singapore, Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia you are told to contact the service. Cancel in account settings on the website with the Cancel VIP Membership button, or on the App Store or Google Play page if you bought it there. There is no offline reading.

Lalatoon is Toomics' sister service, and its historical page uses the same genre number. It sells clovers instead of a subscription: 25 for $3.99, 60 for $7.49, 140 for $15.49, 290 for $31.99 and 500 for $47.99 on the web. Every series we checked charges 3 clovers an episode, which is about 48 cents on the smallest pack and 29 cents on the largest. A Wait Till It's Free coupon opens one episode on eligible series every 72 hours. Paid clovers last five years and bonus ones a year. The 18+ toggle opens a sign-up screen and a yes-or-no age question.

Mainstream historical shelves

WEBTOON has a historical page and its ORIGINALS are free on a weekly schedule. Its guidelines allow sexual themes and ban nudity and explicit sex, mosaic or box censoring included. Mature-rated series are hidden from accounts under 18. Expect a romance to stay at kisses and implication.

MangaToon (historical category) is a multilingual comics app with licensed Chinese and Korean webtoons. A monthly VIP is $4.99, and coins run 100 for $0.99 or 600 for $5.99, about a cent a coin on the larger pack. Webnovel's comics side is a licensed manhua and manhwa reader, with an Elite Membership at $4.99 a month and coin packs of 50 for $0.99 and 150 for $2.99. Its tab is labelled History. The files do not give the coin cost per chapter for either app, and neither one allows explicit content.

Yes, Roya, the historical title in our files

Yes, Roya is a western erotic graphic novel set in 1963 California by C. Spike Trotman and Emilee Denich, sold by Iron Circus as a single completed volume. An aspiring artist gets a portfolio review from an established cartoonist and becomes involved with him and his partner. The listing is marked adults only and quotes reviews from Oh Joy Sex Toy and Women Write About Comics. Softcover is $15 and the DRM-free PDF is $10, which is the cheaper way to keep it. No free edition exists, and there is no app: Iron Circus delivers files by email. It is a different thing from a Korean webtoon, with no wait timers or coin packs.

Budgeting for a historical series

Period romances tend to run long, so the price per episode matters more than the price of the first. A 500-clover Lalatoon pack at $47.99 covers about 166 episodes at 3 clovers each. A year of Toomics VIP is the same $47.99 on the App Store list, and it gets you into the subscription section only; Store titles are coin-only. TOPTOON Plus publishes no membership price in the pages we checked, which makes it the hardest to compare. MangaToon's $4.99 VIP and Webnovel's $4.99 Elite are the cheapest monthly tickets here, and they buy a mainstream reader without explicit editions. If the aim is an 18+ edition, price the first two instead.

Free historical webtoons

Free means the first stretch of a series. TOPTOON Plus shows the first episodes after login. Toomics shows the first three chapters. Lalatoon gives the first episodes plus the 72-hour coupon. Reading on a phone

Lalatoon, MangaToon, Toomics, Webnovel and WEBTOON have iOS and Android apps, and TOPTOON Plus has none we could confirm. The adult editions of Toomics stay on the website, and TOPTOON Plus is web only, so the explicit historical shelves open in a phone browser. MangaToon allows offline downloads; Toomics does not.
