In short
- Oh Joy Sex Toy is free: the full archive opens after an 18+ confirmation, and the under-18 button sends readers to scarleteen.com.
- It is non-fiction. Strips cover sex education, health, kinks and toy reviews, one a week on Tuesdays.
- Erika Moen drew most strips from 2013 to 2021 and has stepped away. Current strips are by credited guest artists, edited by co-creator Matthew Nolan.
- The site has a sponsor ("Sponsored by Magic Wand!") and affiliate retailer links on its shop page, so its toy reviews are not independent of sellers.
- Collected volumes: PDFs in the Patreon shop, print copies on Amazon.
What Oh Joy Sex Toy is
The page title says it: "A Sex Education and Toy Review Comic". Each strip is a first-person piece by a cartoonist, about adult sexuality, written to explain something or to review a product. The site files them under Sex Ed, Health, Kinks and Reviews, and the Reviews shelf splits again into Vibrators, Dildos, Lubes & Barriers, Couples Toys, and Kink & BDSM.
The home page describes the project in its own shorthand: Free & Fun Sex Positive Comics, for 18+ readers. Updates Tuesdays. Artist Owned~ Patreon Supported.
That makes it the odd one out among the NSFW webcomics on this site. There is no plot and no recurring cast to follow; readers come for a topic and leave with an answer, or with an opinion on a vibrator.
How explicit it is
The site calls its strips mature comics and gates them. The entry screen says This site contains mature comics
and asks visitors to confirm they are over 18. The other button sends anyone under 18 to scarleteen.com. The comics are educational, and the subject is sex, toys and kink between adults, drawn as such.
Who draws Oh Joy Sex Toy now
The comic began in 2013 as the work of Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan. The team page lists Moen as "Co-Creator & Original Cartoonist" who drew the majority of the comics for OJST from 2013-2021
, and says she has since stepped away. Nolan stays on as "Creative Director & Editor".
The strips now come from guest cartoonists, each credited on their strip. Hien Pham, Jey Pawlik and Ripley LaCross are among the names on the team page. The newest entry in the site feed is "Sharing The Garden" by ivymug, posted on Tuesday, October 27. Anyone who came to the comic for Moen's drawing should expect a different artist from week to week.

Sponsors and affiliate links
Oh Joy Sex Toy is funded partly by the industry it reviews. The site carries a "Sponsored by Magic Wand!" banner, and its shop page links to retailers with affiliate links. That is common for review sites, and the strips are signed by the person who wrote them. Still, the toy reviews are one artist's view published on a site with commercial ties to sellers; treat them as such, and compare before buying anything expensive.
Where to read it free
Everything is on ohjoysextoy.com. The comic archive holds every strip, and the category menu narrows them to education, health, kinks or one kind of review. Since every strip stands alone, the categories are the better way in than reading from 2013 forward. The site feed brings each Tuesday strip to a feed reader.
The site has no paywall on the archive. Patreon support keeps it running, which the tagline itself says.
Oh Joy Sex Toy books and Patreon
The Our Shops page points to two places. The Patreon shop sells Volume 1 to Volume 3 as PDFs, along with a "Drawn to Sex" basics PDF. Amazon carries what the site calls the "Book Store Versions" of Volumes 1, 2 and 3, plus Volume 4 in print. Older print listings at TopatoCo are still linked. The prices of the Patreon-shop PDFs and of the Patreon tiers are not shown on the pages we used, so check them on Patreon itself.
A Patreon membership funds the free site directly. The guide to supporting adult comic creators compares a membership with buying the books.
