Are adult comic sites safe?

Licensed adult comic sites are safe enough to use once you check four things before paying: what the charge will say on your statement, what the age check and privacy policy collect, whether the service can lose its payment processor, and whether the site is licensed at all. The documented risks are mostly about billing text, data shared for advertising and services that close, and the steps at the end cover the signup.

In short

  • The charge: only a few services publish what their statement line reads. Filthy Figments says "CCBILL*StrawberryC", Affect3D lists three descriptors that name neither the store nor adult content, and Slipshine's line names Slipshine Studio.
  • Age checks are mostly a click. FAKKU uses a checkbox, MangaPlaza a toggle, Toomics a Yes button that needs an account; Honeytoon adds a Yoti ID check where local law requires it.
  • Data: Tappytoon's and Manta's Google Play listings say names, emails and device IDs may be shared, including for advertising. FAKKU's privacy policy was last modified in May 2018.
  • Money at risk: coins and prepaid balances. Manga Planet closed in March 2026 with no refunds on points, and Tapas ends service on 2027-03-31.

What the charge looks like on a statement

Most services in our files do not publish their card descriptor. Filthy Figments says on its membership page that "your billing info will show a discreet charge from CCBILL*StrawberryC", and that access continues to the end of the prepaid term after you cancel. Affect3D lists a descriptor for each processor: Netdiffusion Limited through SecurionPay, Epoch.com *netdiffusion through Epoch, and info.bmtmicro.com through BMT. None of the three names Affect3D or says anything about adult content. Slipshine's FAQ says charges appear as "CCBill.com *Slipshine Studio", so the line names the studio. Kirtu's legacy FAQ promises that "there will never be any adult site or Savita Bhabhi name" on a statement, while its current terms say the site address will appear; ask support before relying on either.

Apple and Google handle the rest. A subscription started inside an iPhone or Android app is billed by the store; WEBTOON's help page says its coin payments go through Apple or Google, and Tappytoon sells its Club subscription through the stores. Cancel those in the store, not on the comic site. FAKKU, Irodori Comics, Toomics, Lezhin and Honeytoon do not publish a descriptor in the pages we read. FAKKU's "generic and unbranded" packaging and Irodori Comics' discreet packaging are for physical orders and say nothing about the digital charge.

General advice, not a service policy: a bank or card issuer can tell you what a merchant name will print before you pay, and a descriptor you cannot predict is a reason to ask support first.

Age checks and what they ask for

The age gate is a statement on most sites, not a document check. FAKKU asks for a checkbox at sign-up, MangaPlaza for a self-declared 18+ toggle, pixiv for a date of birth plus an R-18 display setting, and itch.io for a date-of-birth gate on its NSFW pages. Toomics shows a Yes button to turn off Family Safe mode, which did not work when the page was checked logged out; readers in Singapore, Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia are told to contact support. Manta takes the age at account creation and does not let you change it afterwards. Tappytoon wants a login, an age confirmation and then mature mode.

Honeytoon is the one with an ID step: where local law requires it, the site sends you to Yoti and says "We do not store your ID data". A click-through gate means you hand over less, and it also means the gate does not stop anyone else using your device. Toomics' Family Safe mode, on by default, is the nearest thing to a parental control in our files.

A statement that every character is an adult is a separate check. FAKKU's 2257 notice says all persons depicted were at least 18, and Irodori Comics prints the line on its product pages. We found none in the terms or help pages of Toomics, Lezhin, Tappytoon, Manta, TOPTOON Plus, Lalatoon or Honeytoon.

Privacy policies and the data behind them

The Google Play listings are the plainest source. Tappytoon's data safety section says name, email address, user IDs and device IDs may be shared, with advertising or marketing among the purposes. Manta's says crash logs, app interactions, installed apps, email, user IDs and device IDs may be shared, again including advertising. We did not read the Toomics, Lalatoon or Lezhin sections.

FAKKU has no store app, so it has no such card. Its privacy policy, last modified May 24, 2018, lists username, email, password, address, postal code and country, plus device and browsing data and Google Analytics. Slipshine says it logs cookies and IP addresses for age verification, that CCBill holds the billing data, and that "no billing or contact information is transferred from CCBill to Slipshine".

The account deletion guide covers the exit routes, and the private library page lists services with a hidden shelf. This guide sits with the other comic guides.

Payment-processor trouble and what it means for you

Adult comic sellers depend on processors that can walk away. FAKKU's founder wrote on 2026-04-18 that "the payment processor we had worked with for the past 11 years terminated our account abruptly" at the end of 2025, and that direct bank transfers were added for regular purchases; comments and reviews have been off since December. Stripe stopped processing payments for the English manga subscription Manga Planet in January 2025 because of its R18 content, and Manga Planet closed its digital service on 2026-03-31 with no refunds on points or content. Fantia suspended Visa and Mastercard in May 2024.

Mastercard's 2021 statement requires banks whose merchants sell adult content to see documented consent, age and identity checks for the people depicted and for uploaders, content review and a complaints process; in 2025 it said it allows all lawful purchases.

The exposure for you is the unspent balance. A Honeytoon pack of 2,000 coins for EUR 49.99 buys 222 episodes at 9 coins each; if the service closed the way Manga Planet did, the unspent part would be gone. Tapas, which sells Ink for premium episodes, will end service on 2027-03-31, cannot sell new Ink since 2026-10-01 and says unlocked episodes become inaccessible and Ink is non-refundable. Buy coins in packs you will use within the month.

Licensed or pirated

A licensed service has a company behind it, names its publishers or artists and takes payment. Toomics says in its help center that its content is copyrighted and published with the artists' permission. Our research files say nothing about malware on such sites, so what follows is general advice: a site with no named operator has nobody to answer for what it serves you, and a pirate aggregator offers no refund, billing line or account deletion either. The licensed vs pirated guide has the checks.

A safe signup, step by step

  1. Find the service's own legality or licence line. Toomics and Lalatoon both answer "Is it a legal site?" in their help centers.
  2. Read the refund and billing page before entering a card. Toomics refunds coins within 7 days if none were used; Tappytoon and Manta state that purchases are final.
  3. Look up the descriptor. If the service does not publish one, ask support or your card issuer what will print.
  4. Use a separate email address for adult accounts. That is advice, not a service rule; it keeps receipts and promotions out of your main inbox.
  5. Start with the smallest coin pack or a one-month plan, not the annual one.
  6. Put the end of any trial in your calendar. Apple says to cancel at least 24 hours before a trial ends; Toomics' Free Month and MangaPlaza's 7-day trial both renew.
  7. Note how you will cancel and delete the account before you need to. The cancel guide has the routes for each service.

Watch out

Toomics hides the Cancel VIP Membership button during its Free Month offer until the second or third week. Cancel from the account settings page on the website, or from the App Store or Google Play subscription page.

FAQ

Will an adult comic site show on my bank statement?

That depends on the service. Filthy Figments, Slipshine, Affect3D and Kirtu publish descriptors, and most others do not. Subscriptions bought through an app are billed by Apple or Google.

Is Toomics safe?

It is a licensed service with a Family Safe mode on by default. It shows ads on the free tier, and we did not read its Google Play data safety section. Its largest shareholder denied sale rumors in February 2026 while seeking new investment.

What happens to my coins if a site closes?

It depends on the service. Manga Planet gave no refunds on points, and Tapas says Ink is non-refundable and unlocked episodes become inaccessible after 2027-03-31.
