In short
- One-off tips on platforms that allow explicit work: Fantia, Ci-en and SubscribeStar, plus Skeb's boost after a commission is delivered.
- Honeytoon series pages carry a tip button that says 100% goes to the creators.
- WEBTOON Super Likes and Ko-fi tips work, but neither service allows explicit comics.
- pixivFANBOX has no tip feature, and Patreon has no confirmed separate one.
A tip is a single payment to an artist with no plan attached: you read a chapter, liked it, and send money once. It suits readers who do not want another monthly charge and creators whose audience reads in bursts. For adult comics the options are narrower than the general creator economy suggests, because Ko-fi, the cheapest tip jar here, and WEBTOON, the biggest comics app with tips, both ban explicit work. This page belongs to our features section; for the recurring version see creator subscriptions.

Fantia allows tips, including anonymous tips, on any post, and its help centre says the amount goes to the creator after fees. Since July 3, 2025 the buyer also pays an 8% service fee on tips, so a 1,000 yen tip costs the sender 1,080 yen. Fantia requires mosaics on sexual work and lists only JCB and American Express for card payments.
Ci-en, a Japanese fan-support site, takes tips on articles and as monthly add-ons on top of a plan. The fee is deducted before payout; tips sit in the monthly-plan group of its fee table, where R-18 plans pay 13%.
SubscribeStar has a "Tips/Donations" section in its payouts policy, with one condition that affects readers: tips must not be presented as payment for specific content
. A creator cannot sell a comic as a "tip"; paid posts and collections exist for that. The adult site charges its usual 10% plus processing.
Skeb is a commission site, and its version of a tip is the boost: after delivery, the client can add money on top of the agreed amount. The boost fee is up to 13.6%, so the artist keeps at least 864 yen of a 1,000 yen boost before the withdrawal fee.
itch.io has no tip button, but pay-what-you-want pricing does the same job: buyers can pay above a comic's minimum, and the extra goes through the creator's normal revenue share. Stripe has been suspended for 18+ pages on itch.io since July 2025.
Honeytoon, a web-only adult webtoon site, puts a tip button on series pages: Support the creators and keep the story going. Send a tip 100% tips goes to the creators
. Honeytoon does not say how the tip is paid or which creator account receives it, and it describes itself as not a user-generated content platform, so artists cannot open their own tip jar there.
Tips on mainstream comic platforms
WEBTOON's Super Likes are the best-documented tip system on a comics app. Readers buy them in the app, from $1 for 5 up to $100 for 500, and senders must be 18 or older. Creators get 70% of net revenue, and WEBTOON defines net as gross minus a 30% deduction for app and in-app fees, so about 49 cents of every dollar reaches the creator. WEBTOON's rules ban nudity and explicit sex, so Super Likes support only non-explicit series.
Ko-fi charges 0% on one-off tips for creators on Ko-fi Free and 5% on Standard, with the processor's fee (around 3% + $0.30) on top: a $5 tip on Ko-fi Free leaves the artist about $4.55. Its content guidelines ban pornography and sexualised nudity in illustrated work, censored or not, so it works only for an artist's non-explicit side. GlobalComix lets creators switch on optional donations, INKR's studio platform says Donate to support your favorite studios
, and Webnovel readers can send Gifts bought with Coins. None of the three carries explicit comics.
Tapas readers support creators with Ink, but Tapas stopped selling Ink on October 1, 2026 and closes on March 31, 2027 (see our Tapas shutdown report). Only Ink already in an account can still be given.

Platforms with no tip button
pixivFANBOX runs on monthly plans only; its help centre describes no one-off tip or donation. Patreon's pricing page lists "One-time payments", and Adult/18+ creators can sell posts and collections as one-off purchases, but a separate tip feature is not confirmed on an official page. Gumroad has a help article on tip jars, but it no longer allows explicit work at all. Among the adult webtoon and manga stores, Tappytoon, Lezhin, TOPTOON Plus and MangaPlaza have no tip feature.
How much of a tip reaches the artist
| Platform | Fee on a tip | Explicit work allowed |
|---|---|---|
| Fantia | 8% paid by the sender; creator-side fee not stated separately | Yes, with mosaics |
| Ci-en | Deducted before payout (13% group for R-18 plans) | Yes, R-18 side, with mosaics |
| SubscribeStar (adult) | 10% plus processing | Yes, fictional work |
| Skeb boost | Up to 13.6% | Yes, flagged and censored |
| WEBTOON Super Like | Creator gets about 49% of gross | No |
| Ko-fi | 0% (Free) or 5% (Standard), plus processor fee | No |
Withdrawal fees come off afterwards, and they matter for small tips: Skeb charges 458 yen per bank withdrawal, Fantia 330 yen per transfer request. A creator collecting a few hundred yen at a time loses a real share to those. Our guide to how comic platforms pay creators covers every income route, and how to support adult comic creators is the reader-side version, including buying their books.
