In short

How NSFW webcomics work

An NSFW webcomic is a comic that its creator posts on a personal site with an adult gate, usually for free, and pays for through something else. The something else is a book, a bundle of PDFs, a Patreon page or a run of paid chapters on itch.io. That makes the creator's site the first place to look and the platforms the places to pay.

The picks below are ordered by how complete the free part is and how clearly the money side is laid out, not by explicitness. Every comic here is drawn work with adult characters, according to what its own pages say. Where we could not check something, we say so. Facts come from the creators' sites, stores and platform policies; we did not buy anything. Comics sold through stores and members archives are ranked on the porn comics list, and the best-of index has the other lists.

Oglaf is a fantasy sex-comedy strip by Trudy and Doug, posted every Sunday on oglaf.com. A single click on an 18+ gate opens the entire archive free. The Patreon page shows 2,845 paid members.

The books are at TopatoCo: Books 1 to 4 cost $24.00 in print or $13.00 as a PDF each, and all four PDFs together are $25.00, against $52.00 for the four bought one by one. Book Five was funded on Kickstarter on October 23, 2026, and a $10 pledge got the PDF. Oglaf in full has the rest.

The Cummoner

Best free webcomic with paid extra chapters

Status

The Cummoner is a fantasy erotic comedy about a witch named Vilga, by the artist who signs as Totem. The webcomic is free on totempole666.com, and the About page says the paid chapters are not needed to follow the story. It also rules out rape, gore and characters under 18.

Paid chapters sell at $5.99 each on itch.io, and a digital volume is $9.99. Patreon and SubscribeStar carry the supporter side, and Book 2 in print was crowdfunded on Kickstarter. Because the paid chapters are optional, it is one of the cheaper ways to see what an NSFW webcomic is like. More is on The Cummoner.

The Rock Cocks, by Leslie and Brad Brown, is an erotic road comedy about two people who quit their jobs to tour as a punk duo with a live show. It has run since November 14, 2014 and has 18 chapters and over 1,000 pages, free on a subdomain of Slipshine.

Supporters on Patreon or SubscribeStar get pin-ups, early pages, bonus comics, PDFs, wallpapers and original artwork. It works as a free way into the Slipshine house style before paying for the members archive. The Rock Cocks has its own page.

Oh Joy Sex Toy

Best non-fiction NSFW comic

Creator
Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan, with guest cartoonists
Format
webcomic
Official source
ohjoysextoy.com
Status
ongoing

Oh Joy Sex Toy is a sex-education and toy-review comic, free on its own site after an 18+ gate, with a new strip on Tuesdays. Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan began it in 2013; Moen drew most strips until 2021 and stepped away, and Nolan now edits guest artists.

Two things to know before trusting the reviews. The site carries a sponsor banner and retailer affiliate links on its shop page. The collected volumes are PDFs in the Patreon shop and print on Amazon. For a comic about adult sexuality it is the least fictional entry on the list; Oh Joy Sex Toy covers it.

Webcomic strip

Ménage à 3

Best complete sex-comedy run

Creator
Gisèle Lagacé (creator, co-writer, artist) and David Lumsdon (co-writer); editor T Campbell
Format

Official source
pixietrixcomix.com
Status
completed

Ménage à 3, by Gisèle Lagacé with David Lumsdon, ran from 2008 to 2019: 1,512 strips collected in 10 print volumes at $9.99 each, plus a $50.00 hardcover art book. It is set in Montreal and follows a comic artist and his roommates. Strips are free to read from the first one on Pixie Trix Comix; the site's archive page returned an error when we checked, though the strip pages loaded.

The site shows no 18+ gate or rating, and we did not judge how explicit it is, so read it as a sex comedy. Digital books are on Gumroad and Kindle, and a colour edition is on Patreon. Ménage à 3 has more.

Sticky Dilly Buns

Sticky Dilly Buns is the Ménage à 3 spin-off, finished at 336 strips in two volumes at $9.99 each. It follows Dillon and his roommate Amber, a former porn performer trying to go mainstream, according to the store copy. The archive is free, and digital editions are on Gumroad and Kindle.

Like its parent, it shows no age gate, and we did not assess how explicit it is. At 336 strips, it is a quicker read than the 1,512 of the original. See Sticky Dilly Buns.

Sunstone is Stjepan Šejić's erotic romance about two women and their BDSM relationship, which began online and is now published by Image Comics. The new 6x9 edition of volume 1 came out on February 11, 2026: 128 pages at $9.99, rated M, with volumes 1 to 6 scheduled from February to December 2026.

Whether the original webcomic is still free was not verified, because the artist's DeviantArt page blocked our check. Volume 1 ranks number 11 in Amazon's Erotica Graphic Novels best sellers. See Sunstone.

The platforms behind NSFW comics

Most of the comics above fund themselves through one of four platforms. Each takes a different cut and draws its adult line in a different place.

Doujinshi

itch.io

Best for paid chapters and DRM-free files

Price
Free
Type
open indie marketplace with an NSFW comics section
Formats
western comics, doujinshi, 3D comics
Free reading
Yes

itch.io is where The Cummoner sells its chapters. Its NSFW comics section lists 1,630 comics, 218 of them free, behind a date-of-birth gate. Creators set the revenue share, with a default of 10% to itch.io, and a $10 sale nets $8.41 once itch.io's 10% and the processor fee are taken out.

The weak point is card processing. In July 2025 itch.io deindexed all adult pages and suspended Stripe for 18+ content; free pages returned within a week and paid ones came back with no dated announcement. See the itch.io delisting for the timeline.

Patreon

Best for memberships behind a clean public page

Price
Free
Type
membership platform where creators sell subscriptions and one-time purchases to fans
Formats
western comics, manga, webtoons
Free reading
Yes

Oglaf, Ménage à 3 (in colour) and The Cummoner all use Patreon. Explicit work has to sit on Adult/18+ pages behind the paywall, creators pass ID and selfie verification, and the public page must show no nudity. The platform fee is 10% on pages published after August 4, 2025, and fans switch on 18+ creators in settings.

Patreon bans incest and non-consent in drawn work and anything that does not read as unmistakably adult. Apple set November 1, 2026 as the deadline for Patreon creators to use subscription billing in the iOS app, and the outcome was not reported when we checked. Patreon for adult comics goes through the rules.

SubscribeStar's adult site hosts The Rock Cocks and The Cummoner supporter tiers. Since March 11, 2026 it takes fictional work only and screens every post before it goes live. Creators pass KYC first, and the fee is 10% plus processing of 3% + $0.30 up to 10% + $0.40.

Real people, incest, non-consent and characters who read as minors are all banned. A creator needs a $150 balance before the first bank payout, with some US creators eligible at $30. Patreon vs SubscribeStar compares them directly.

Newgrounds

Best free community for adult-rated comics

Price
Free
Type
artist community portal with an art section
Formats
western comics, pin-ups, animation, games
Free reading
Yes

Newgrounds lists The Cummoner among its pages, and artists post comics there as multi-image art projects. Work is filtered by rating (E, T, M, A), and the A rating covers nudity, sex and fetishes. Adult work has to be rated A even if the explicit parts are blurred, and members under 18 may not post it.

Art is free to view. Our server hit a bot check, so every Newgrounds fact here comes from archived copies of its pages, and we could not confirm how guests unlock A-rated art. Newgrounds has no AI-generated art in its art portal. Its rules ban sexual art of child-looking characters whatever age is claimed.

itch.io Creator FAQ page with a table of contents and sidebar menu

Paying for a free webcomic

The direct options, from cheapest, are a $5.99 chapter on itch.io, a PDF of a print book ($13.00 for an Oglaf book), or a monthly Patreon or SubscribeStar tier. Print books run $9.99 each for Ménage à 3 and Sticky Dilly Buns. How to support adult comic creators lists the steps, and free adult comics sites covers more free reading.

For anyone who wants the term defined, NSFW comics explained lists what the label covers, and the full set of creator pages is under NSFW webcomics.

FAQ

Are NSFW webcomics free?

Many are. Oglaf, The Cummoner, The Rock Cocks and Oh Joy Sex Toy publish whole archives free on their own sites. The creators earn from books, PDFs, paid chapters and supporter tiers instead of charging for the comic itself.

Where do NSFW comic artists get paid?

Mostly on itch.io, Patreon and SubscribeStar, plus book stores such as TopatoCo. Platform cuts differ: 10% by default on itch.io, 10% on SubscribeStar's adult site and 10% on newer Patreon pages, before processing fees.

Do I need an account to read them?

Not for the free archives. Oglaf and Oh Joy Sex Toy ask for an 18+ click, and itch.io asks for a date of birth on NSFW browse pages. Paid tiers and purchases need an account on the platform involved.

Is Ménage à 3 explicit?

We could not say. The site shows no age gate or rating, the cast pages are images, and we did not judge it. It is a sex comedy with an adult cast, with 1,512 strips.

Why do adult comics keep losing platforms?

Payment processors. itch.io hid its adult pages in July 2025 after processor scrutiny, and Gumroad's help page now lists adult comics with nudity or sexual acts as not eligible for sale. Artists who diversify across two or three platforms lose less when one drops out.
