Best FAKKU Alternatives

Irodori Comics is the closest match in spirit: a small US publisher that licenses Japanese doujinshi directly from the artists and translates them into English. Its main erotic line is uncensored (Irodori describes it as uncensored English localizations), and it lists over 300 titles by over 100 artists. Every purchase is a DRM-free PDF at 3200 px tall that you download and keep.

There is no subscription. Titles cost $5.25 to $39.25 on the home page when we checked, the top end being a compilation, and "99¢ Monthly Deals" cut some titles to $0.99. Fourteen artist-approved titles are free to read online. The limits: refunds only for an accidental duplicate within 24 hours, no PayPal, and the store is closed to visitors from China, South Korea and New Zealand, while visitors in Japan cannot buy the uncensored editions. Every product page states that all characters are at least 18. Our FAKKU vs Irodori Comics comparison puts the two side by side.

pixiv is Japan's largest art posting site and the place most hentai and doujin artists post first, R-18 manga included, for free. To see R-18 work you set a date of birth on a free account and switch the R-18 setting on from the website; the iOS and Android apps (rated 17+) cannot change it. pixiv Premium ($4.15 a month on the web) adds search and ad-free features and does not unlock anything.

Two things separate it from FAKKU. All sexual work must carry mosaics or bars under pixiv's guidelines, which follow Japanese law. And accounts set to the US, the UK, the EU, Canada, Australia or New Zealand fall under extra content limits, so some works are hidden in those regions.

pixivFANBOX is pixiv's fan-plan service: you subscribe to one artist's monthly plan, priced by the artist from 100 to 10,000 JPY, and pixiv says the average pledge is about 500 JPY. With R-18 posting on, the artist keeps 87.1% of each pledge. The card statement reads PIXIV FANBOX, never the artist's name.

Mosaics are mandatory, there is no official app, and there are no refunds or part-month proration. In September 2026 creators reported posts being suspended after notices citing FANBOX's payment processor, some of them years old, so a back catalog can shrink. The FANBOX vs Fantia comparison covers the two Japanese fan-plan sites together.

MangaPlaza is the nearest thing to an affordable manga subscription with an adult shelf: Premium costs $6.99 a month after a one-time 7-day free trial. Its Adult Romance genre lists 1,564 titles, all tagged Mature 18+, and Boys' Love another 2,140. That is adult romance and BL manga from Japanese publishers, a different kind of book from FAKKU's hentai magazines.

MangaPlaza says nothing about mosaics, works only in a browser with no downloads, and its terms limit the service to the United States. Points cost 1 cent each.

Fantia, run by the doujin retailer Toranoana, lets each fan club sell monthly plans from 100 to 100,000 JPY plus one-off downloads, goods and back issues; since October 22, 2026 back issues can be bought without joining the plan. Posted files can be downloaded.

It is a Japanese service with Japanese help pages, mosaics are required, and there is no app. Visa and Mastercard have been suspended since May 2024, leaving JCB and American Express among the cards. Since July 2025 buyers pay an 8% service fee on goods, tips, commissions and back issues, though not on illustration and manga plans.

BookWalker, KADOKAWA's English ebook store, fills the gap FAKKU leaves on phones: it has iPhone and Android apps and claims more than 76,000 licensed titles. Mature titles are hidden until you sign in and switch them on. We saw no hentai section, so this is a store for ecchi and mature-rated manga from publishers such as Seven Seas and Yen Press.

Coins cost 1 cent each and bought coins never expire. Downloads are DRM-protected LCP files that open in reader apps such as Thorium, and the support FAQ says offline reading in BookWalker's own app is still to come.
