Webtoon coins meaning

Webtoon coins are a platform currency: you buy a pack with real money, then spend coins to unlock episodes. They work only on the platform that sold them, and they buy access to a story, not a copy of it.

In short

  • Each platform names its currency differently: Ink on Tapas, clovers on Lalatoon, Gems on WebComics, points on MangaPlaza, coins almost everywhere else.
  • The number that matters is the price of one episode, and most platforms make you work it out.
  • Apple's guideline 3.1.1 says currencies bought in an iOS app may not expire. Free and bonus coins often do.
  • Coins are usually non-refundable and die with the service.

How a coin system works

There are always two prices. The coin shop sells packs (10 coins for $0.99, say), and each locked episode costs some number of coins. Bigger packs often lower the price per coin. The platform then sets the coin price per series, so two episodes on the same app can cost different amounts.

The table shows what the research files record. Where a platform hides one of the two numbers, we leave the episode price blank.

Apps that are not adult services price the same way: WebComics sells 10 Gems for $0.99, MangaToon 100 coins for $0.99 and Webnovel 50 coins for $0.99. None of them publishes what a chapter costs outside the app.

Expiry, refunds and shutdowns

On iOS, Apple's guideline 3.1.1 says credits purchased via in-app purchase may not expire. Platforms work around the edges with free coins: WEBTOON's bought coins do not expire, but its free coins do and are spent first, and Tapas says Bonus Ink expires. MangaPlaza's purchased points expire after 36 months.

Refunds are rare. The Tapas end-of-service FAQ says all Ink transactions are final and non-refundable, and unlocked episodes become inaccessible when the service ends on March 31, 2027 (see Tapas shutting down). Coins buy reading rights on one platform; when that platform goes, so do they.

For the per-unit model behind coins, see pay per chapter and the guide to how pay-per-chapter platforms work. Prices by service are on the adult comics pricing page, and other terms are in the glossary.

FAQ

Do webtoon coins expire?

Coins bought in an iOS app may not expire under Apple's rules. Free, bonus and promotional coins often do, and some platforms set their own limits: MangaPlaza's purchased points expire after 36 months.

How much is one webtoon coin?

On WEBTOON, 10 coins cost $0.99 in the US App Store, about 10 cents each, and larger packs bring it to about 9 cents. Other platforms differ widely, so compare the price per episode.

Can I get a refund for unused coins?

Usually not. Tapas calls Ink non-refundable even with the service closing. Store purchases go through Apple's or Google's own refund process.

Can I wait instead of paying coins?

On many platforms, yes, one episode at a time. See wait for free.
