Doujinshi meaning
Anime News Network's lexicon: Dōjinshi manga are non-professional and/or self-published comics, and dōjin refers to any self-published work.
It splits them into fan comics and original works, gives the literal sense as publications for people of similar interests, and notes that many professional artists keep self-publishing alongside their paid work.
The word itself says nothing about content, and doujinshi exist in every genre. This site covers the adult ones, which is what FAKKU and Irodori Comics license in English.
Circles, parodies and originals
The publisher of a doujinshi is called a circle. FAKKU's doujin pages show a Circle field and a Parody field, the second naming the series a fan work is based on. An original work simply has no parody listed.
Where doujinshi are sold in English
FAKKU has a dedicated doujin section next to its manga, with each title tagged by circle. Irodori Comics licenses doujinshi directly from the artists and sells them as uncensored, DRM-free English PDFs; it says it prioritizes the royalty they receive for each work sold
, though it does not publish the rate. On itch.io, Doujinshi appears as a tag on adult comics that artists upload and price themselves.

Is doujinshi always porn?
No. The word only means self-published. Fan comics and original doujin can be any genre.
What is the difference between doujinshi and hentai?
Doujinshi describes how a comic is published (by the artist or a circle). Hentai describes what it contains. An explicit doujinshi is both.
Are doujinshi censored?
Japanese releases carry mosaics or bars. Irodori Comics sells uncensored English editions and blocks users in Japan from viewing them.
